Ian Brown Mr. Moran English I - Honors 12 March 2012 Year-Round Schooling Pro Rebuttal The issue of having year-round school in America or not has been going around for decades. This system is practiced throughout the world with the huge exception of many of our schools. Some claim that it doesn’t make a difference to a child’s scores, but spending more time in the classroom, with shorter but often breaks, can keep their mind refreshed. Even U.S. President Barack Obama stated that the hardships and new challenges in this emerging century “demand more time in the classroom.” Some opponents of this system say that our summer vacation is the perfect time to have a full time-off and that you won’t lose much of what you learned the previous school year. In fact, according to a study at the University of Missouri, they found that many students forgot over two and one-half months of whatever their grade-level equivalency is in mathematics.
ENGL 1101 24 September 2012 Graduation Day Graduation is one of the few times where others not only share in your excitement, but can aso be even more overwhelmed for your "big day”. Graduation is a ceremony used to celebrate the moving forward after working hard in one arena in preparation for your future. It is the only time I can think of where a student may quench the thirst of closure in one endeavor and the start of another all in the same breathe. Although we view graduation as a celebration, for me it seemed like a big fat eviction notice since I would no longer be living with my parents. You see for four years teachers, parents, even previous graduates spread the hype that on the day of graduation you will have the time of your life.
Nobody can take away your level of effort. Another core belief that I have is to always look at the best in things no matter what. This belief helps a ton when you think that things aren't going your way. I got this belief from my parents also. My parents really believed in shaping me into a good person when i was younger.
The names Riyad and I’m blessed I’ve gotten to graduate from Saints Mary & Joseph School. I find it astonishing how someone could feel so personally connected to all the teachers, students, staff, & parents. I greatly appreciate everything they have done for my school and I. Looking back at the past 10 years of my life, I’ve seen how everyone has grown and changed; but only for the best. When I really take the time to think about it I wouldn’t want to grow and mature with any other class.
This is where the arguments may kick in but in the end you will be more appreciated for being you and you in turn will be better understood. Finally the most important reason why occasional arguments are good or healthy is that it doesn’t allow old or past problems to become future problems. They allow you to discuss them. If a problem goes unnoticed or not talked about it just
The nature of stress is very much similar to that of pressure. Many people immediately consider pressure to have only negative qualities. However, though, pressure is actually beneficial in that it aids the motivation for greater achievement. Concerning the issue of college pressure, William Zinsser, conversely, supports a more negative view on pressure. He
When people believe fulfillment is possible, they tend to gain the strength, incentive, and willingness to work for what they want. Hope can be a powerful source of happiness and success in times of stress and uncertainty. However, if a person “hopes” constantly in situations where contentment is impossible and based on unrealistic outcomes, time and time again the person will be disappointed. This is what we call “false hope”. So even though hope can bring encouragement, it can also cause distress.
* Graduation Speech My fellow classmates, we only arrived here four short years ago, and now it's already time for us to depart; and we’re all wondering how long exactly where the time went. It seems like only yesterday that we were the bottom of our school trying to figure out where our next class was, and looking generally clueless to all the upper classmen. Now we are the upperclassmen, the seniors who stand here ready to graduate and move forward in the world. We’re the ones telling freshman about the third floor. Yet at this seminal moment, we can't help looking back.
You are about to become a senior in a few months! :) Becoming a senior is not always easy. Every decision you make from now on will affect your future. You have two choices, slack of your senior year or keep up that hard work for one more year. Just think about all that hard work you have done throughout the last three years; taking test, completing projects, and preparing yourself for college.
I know that with my high school requiring school uniforms I was able to wake up an hour later for school. Which was so much better for me since I stayed awake doing extra projects. With everyone wearing close to the same things, it is harder to guess socioeconomic background and discriminate because of it. Uniforms in schools have helped more children want to come to school since they know that they will not be picked on. One of my mentees told me that he would skip school because the other students would pick on him.
