Anisha Spellman Benchmark Assessment: Language Arts Unit Plan Grand Canyon University: EED-525 November 27, 2013 “Learning to read and reading to learn” is a quote that one of the schools in my district uses to help motivate reading in all students and their families. I believe reading is an important aspect of all lives. What exactly would the world be like without the reading? It is crucial that we teach this to all of the little children while they are young and trying to learn. The more they practice and the more teachers and parents instill this in their minds, the better they will become.
The book enthusiasts can belong to a wide range of age groups. These consumers will be less-price sensitive because reading books is their passion. The second target segment will be kids and young children, who are mostly interested in books like comics or books for fun and education. Kids are fascinated by the world of books and accompany their parents to the store. The parents often decide for the best books for the kids.
The big thing that helped me out a lot was that I had previously read the book therefore I was not as lost as someone else who had not read it would be. Also a message was still able to get across through both sources. That it was really difficult to live through the revolution. So be sure to read the book before watching the movie, or it will be confusing and will get you lost and have a million
Within each section it states what the students should be able to achieve for example under speaking and listening it states We want out students to develop increasing confidence and competence in speaking and listening so they are able to: • Clarify and explain their ideas and explain their thinking. • Use a varied and specialised vocabulary. • Listen with understanding and respond sensitively and appropriately. The process of developing early literacy in children would not be possible without phonological awareness. In phonological awareness one is able to hear a particular word and break it up into syllables so as to spell the word by just listening to the letter sound, this gives one the ability to identify letters and its corresponding sounds. A child who understands phonological awareness has it easy when learning to read as stated in Strickland 1998. In order for a child to comprehend oral language, he/she should have the ability to point out phonemes, syllables and rhymes. To aid in this development, the use of nursery rhyme is a great strategy and has found to be very effective.
Also it began to stir up conflicts among the beliefs of the churches over time. The printing press was an amazing invention that became so extraordinary that it was used to print almost anything such as religious books, advertisements, and even literary works. These prints probably traveled across the continent faster than it took to write them. In 1493 Columbus sent a handwritten letter to the King of Spain (Doc. 6).
In the post classical era(600-1450) Chinese societies quickly developed scientific and technological inventions while Christian and Muslim societies lacked in their development due to their high embracement of Christianity and Islam. Christian and Muslim societies tended to focus on the aspects of religion and they often neglected their further advancement in science and technology while Chinese societies put more work effort into their growth of science and technology. Muslims had a very involved religion in terms of laws, ideals and learning aspects. The Koran(Muslim bible) was the roots of the entire Islamic religion and it required a very determined, dedicated and focused person to read and understand it, thus requiring years of work to master. Years that could be spent working on innovation in science and technology.
Finding what is most helpful for meeting the goals set out in the standards may be difficult for a new teacher. Setting high standards and clear goals for students help set them up for their future, make them feel valued and have a goal to reach for. Close-Reading is a careful and purposeful way of reading that help the students to actually comprehend what they are reading and in turn makes reading more desirable. Additionally text-based evidence aides in the understanding and comprehension by providing students with well structured and purposeful text. There are so many times in my life I wish I could go back to my early education years and pay closer attention to what I was being taught.
I have learned about writing of course, but I have learned more than I have in past English courses. This journey was certainly not an easy one to begin since I had been out of school for so long, but so far it is fair to say that it is paying off. Writing has always been a passion of mine so even though I had to take this
