government to further restrict entry through its ports and the 6,000 miles along the Mexican and Canadian borders. The Bush Administration and Congress have introduced legislation often at partisan odds with one another’s perception on how the borders can most effectively be secured. The Bush administration, along with the Department of Homeland Security, pledge to increase border patrol agents by 18,300, construct 370 miles of fencing, and install 105 camera and radar towers along the northern and southern American borders by December 31, 2008. The process of “catch and returning” illegal immigrants instead of issuing a court appearance before an immigration judge, which most illegal immigrants fail to attend, will be instituted according to the Bush Administration. Catching and returning illegal immigrants involves apprehending the illegal alien at the border or those already involved in society and returning them to their native coimmigrants instead of issuing a court appearance before an immigration judge, which most illegal immigrants fail to attend, will be instituted according to the Bush Administration.
One of the most controversial social and economic problems in the U.S. today is immigration reform and illegal immigration. With the most recent studies done by the Pew Research Center, as of March 2012 there are 11.7 million illegal immigrants residing in this country (Nakamura) Out of these 11.7 million, it was estimated a year before that 198,000 reside in San Diego county (Lee, “Estimated 198,000 illegal immigrants in SD County"). These illegal immigrants range from single migrant workers to whole families who are here on overstayed working visas. Although there are many sides of the illegal immigration problem, one the main disputes is the education of these illegal immigrant children. Public education is considered a right for every
All the law is saying that law enforcements can ask for national ID and see if that person is here illegally by checking out the immigration status of the person. By having this law repelled it will just opens a door to human smuggling and once they’re in America, most likely no one will know that they are illegal, unless they get arrested. Sheriff Joe Arpaio of the Maricopa County in Arizona says his office in the last three years has investigated, arrested, detained in our jails over 38,000 illegal aliens with very few lawsuits. He says one night, when there was a lot of commotion, going on outside of house and office, sent out 200 deputy sheriffs and volunteer posse and within 12 hours arrested 93 people, around 65 were illegal aliens involved in human smuggling. By having this law we can easily catch illegal aliens who came into America without being processed.
The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) argues that illegal immigrants cost U.S. taxpayers more than 100 billion dollars every year. They say this is because of a variety of different reasons. First of all, illegal immigrants are undocumented workers which the government pays, but they don’t pay the income taxes back. The director for FAIR says that "The study of the fiscal effects of illegal immigration clearly demonstrates that it is a burden on the American taxpayer”. He also says that if more forceful implementation of immigration laws were put in, each U.S. household could save in the neighborhood of a couple thousand dollars per year (Fahmy, 1).

Just this past year a controversial law SB1070 was signed by Arizona’s governor, were local police have the power to stop anyone on reasonable suspicion that is an illegal immigrant. They have the right to arrest them if they don’t have any documentation such as a driver’s license, work permit, or resident card that shows legal status. The biggest objection of this law is racial profiling and how police can just arrest anyone by race or culture. Arizona population for Illegal’s is an estimate amount of a half a million people. The estimate of people could have been around for years since youth or with in the
The Undocumented in the U.S. Illegal Immigration has become a nationwide epidemic in the U.S. with an estimated 11.8 million undocumented immigrants in 2007 and accounting for 3 percent of the population. (Hoefer 1) Over the years the debate over whether or not to allow illegal immigrants to live and work in the United States has become a lengthy struggle for some that are trying to obtain citizenship legally. As an industrialized nation, the U.S. depends on these immigrants to provide a work for hire service for cheap during economic turmoil. There are several advantages that stem from illegal immigration that should be pointed out.
The United States should stop allowing tax payer dollars to go to the aid of illegal immigrants. The amount of money that is shoveled into programs which are very clearly and apparently taken advantage of by non-tax paying illegal immigrants is staggering. Literally billions of dollars a year meant to aid and assist citizens like you and I are being squandered while legitimate taxpayers are suffering. Welfare, healthcare, education, even the prison system are just a few of the affected areas that are in dire need of some attention and immediate reform. Imagine what could be done with the 90 billion dollars a year the US spends on welfare and social service alone for illegal immigrants.
As each year passes, our country is being slowly smothered and choked to death by illegal immigrants. Illegal immigrants who come into the United States without visas and proper documentation used this to their advantage; they get to apply for jobs and get to avoid paying government taxes. Whereas hardworking immigrants who go through the long process of being admitted to this country are being discriminated against because they are immigrants. As Frank Alfonso states in USA Today, “Coming into the USA illegally is similar to cutting in front of a long supermarket line. There are immigrants who wish to obey the law.
Arizona confirmed that if the government has not taken any far decisions on the issue of illegal immigration, people have to do it themselves. Maybe eventually the government will pay attention to the situation in the country and will try to find a suitable solution for that. It is true that United Sates is a "nation of immigrants," however when these immigrants are breaking the law of the country they want to be in, the action must be taken to ensure the security for law abiding citizens of the country, for them to be safe and sleep calm. It is already bad, don’t wait until it will get worse and maybe even too late to repair
