The decision to survive is often determined by what that person thinks of themselves and the world around them at that time. In the readings assigned to this course I have seen stark differences between those that survived and those that did not survive. People like Parrado and Ralston see that there are reasons beyond merely themselves to survive. Then there are people like McCandless and Reuss who have turned their backs on the civilized world because they have become disillusioned with the world in general. McCandless and Reuss were not comfortable in the world that valued the obtainment of material things and the completion of specific accomplishments.
It also helped me grow as a person it taught me how to be more responsible and how to take control of a situation. I mean let me tell you in the beginning it was the hardest thing to get them to listen to me because they looked at me as another student not as there teacher. They never respected me and were always acting out of line. I slowly got better though they began to get use to me and the fact that they had to listen to me and I also began to listen to them instead of getting made I tried to listen. By the end of the year we had all gotten use to the situation and were sad to see the school year
There isn’t nothing positive being done with the males in my family. They only thing that we all could do well was play sports but talent unused is talent wasted. I believe that I might not be as bad as them but if I continue in the direction I was going in I would end up in the same situations. I had to start my transformation. This is what motivated me to want to change myself and become a better person before it was too late.
I don’t interconnect with my pledge brothers how I should. These are the reasons why. Opening myself up to people become difficult at times. When I am inside of a new environment it takes me time to warm up and allow people to see the true me. My reasoning is because most don’t understand me, and they take my demeanor as cockiness.
Even though both Jefferson and Grant Wiggins learned a good lesson, I felt that Grant was the one that had learn much more. Jefferson was just not open to his family members and those close to him, but had either recorded or kept his feelings inside. When he actually expressed his sadness and frustration to people, I guess some people would classify that as a big lesson learned, but I think Grant went through some major change. Grant had first felt that there was no point in his lifestyle. Why was he living like this?
The problem now, is that people feel too much of themselves. Everyone wants to be independent and an individual but they have to see that one day they’re going to need assistance from someone else. We would rather criticize and attack instead of rationally discussing our differences of opinion. We see this every day in our culture. Our community as a whole loves to be argumentative.
However, there is one rule that Washington writes that is important and that many people today have lost knowledge in which is that “every action done in company, ought to be with some sign of respect, to those that are present”. and that is his first and most valuable rule. My answer to that is no I would not; its because of the mistakes I have made that make me who I am today. William Stafford signifies that people come in and out of your life; some playing little roles and some playing significant roles. Through all of this I have friends come and go; no matter who they may be everybody has made an impact in my life in one way or another. When things get rough you realize who is actually close to you; but it’s the people that exit my life in a hurry that have taught me a lot. I have realized that people can come and go out of my life as they please, but it’s the people that stay that truly impact me.
Lewis goes on to say that we all have this moral idea but most of us never abide by it. I feel like Lewis is true in this statement. We've all been wanting to be friends with those couple of cool kids to feel fully accepted and that you actually matter. Not being able to be friends with those groups is kind of lame. Even though it is said that high school groups get along, they don't because people don't know how to deal with others differences, focus too much on them selves, and don't care to go out of their way to be nice.
