For me, this was very saddening, knowing that they were thinking that you couldn’t be treated any worse than that. If they only knew what was coming in the near future. As they were pulling into the station, the word “Auschwitz” was said. When I read that my heart dropped. Of the few things I knew about the Holocaust, I knew that Auschwitz was a place of death that few left.
The Germans wanted the Jews to feel ”de-humanized” like dogs, they even put up signs on restaurants and that said “No Dogs or Jews allowed”. The Germans wanted the Jews to understand exactly what they thought of them, the German hated the Jews. They wanted the Jews to know how beneath the Germans they were. The Jews just wanted to go about life as normal as they could! The Jews tried living normally by organizing schools, and
" cpl the genral wants you at the command bunker now!" " ok thanks pvt." i called back as i ran to the bunker through the under grownd tunnels which were poorly constructed in the mad rush, to prepear for the sudden loss of ground to these mercyless scum. i was half way their when a sheel hit the ground above causing the tunnle to shake under the force. soil begain to seep through the deep cracks forming in the colapsing roof.
Which mentally destroyed there mind and soul by how poorly perceived they are as a human. As Elies remains longer in the concentration camps the germans do not stop the torturing events. Once Elie and His father have cut their hair they try to find people who they know. They get assigned a labor unit after which means they will not immediately get sent to the crematorium to death. A long night passes, Elie gets beaten again than sent in line while, the SS officers bring in three veteran prisoners to tattoo numbers on each individual "in the afternoon, they made us line up.
His Mother, Magdalena Luczak and her partner, Mariusz Krezolek were subsequently tried and convicted of a series of abuse charges, which included imprisoning the boy for several years and force feeding him salt. However the case highlighted a number of flaws in the social system, which had they been recognised could have prevented the events that occured. Teachers at the school had recognised that the child was abnormally small for his age, and he has frequently been found attempting to smuggle food from the school, yet no one noticed these trigger points and acted accordingly. The schools sole visit came only when Daniel's attendance had reached abnormally low levels, this being conducted by a school nurse, who although referring him to a pediatrician and providing vitamins (which he never recieved) did not follow the case any further and didnt provide the duty of care needed. Doctors and other medical professionals had also treated Daniel for injuried on numerous occasions over several years, yet much in the same way did not proceed to investigate any further, and so Daniels abuse continued.
The purpose of the camp was to “concentrate” and hold the political officials so that they wouldn’t be a threat to the Nazi party. The elections were coming up, but many leaders of parties were arrested and only Hitler’s party was aloud to make speeches and gatherings. Germans had lost their freedom to protest, and those who opposed the Nazis were too frightened to resist. Hitler was playing into their fears, and slowly creating an anti-Jewish atmosphere. People were also out of work and desperate for change, and resorted to following Hitler blindly.
Of those survivors one in particular touched nations with their recount of the horrific events. Night, written by Elie Wiesel is the document of a young boy forced to become a man inside a German concentration camp. During Wiesel’s time in Auschwitz he weighed on by the responsibility of growing up almost overnight. Arriving in Auschwitz at age fifteen Elie Wiesel was nobody’s image of a man in society. Coming from a humble town in Hungary, Wiesel and his community were force on to cattle cars and shipped off to work.
This action was a torture for the ones that had to get in the crematorium and for the ones that were outside. The fact that they knew that their relatives were dead was a torture. The rations of food that the Germans gave the Jews to eat was a torture too. The Jews only received a ration of bread and a ration of soup. They were also forced them to work very hard, until they had no more energy.
If we go back to World War 11- when the Germans had forced the Jewish people to wear yellow stars that identify who they were. This was just so they could be placed in the concentration camps later by the Nazis. You had most Germans believing that the Jews were below them. There for they never felt anything for discriminating against them, just because of whom they were. Because they had prejudged the Jews and felt that they were not worthy to live, so they decided to kill them all.
In the book Night, Elie and his father are sent to a concentration camp called Auschwitz, and then Buna. At both of these camps, the Nazis were unfair to all of the Jews and treated them horribly. In other words, the Nazis "dehumanized" the Jews. Dehumanization is to treat people as if they are not human. To dehumanize a person is to be cruel to them until they no longer act human.
