Do you ever get annoyed when someone is on their cellphone while eating dinner? For example, your in a restaurant and a waitress is asking someone what they want to eat but get ignored because that person is on a phone call or just messing around on their phone. Do not be that one guy that people are annoyed by in a restaurant! Instead of messing around on your device you should spend the time with your family. You should share how your day was and explain your feelings to them or if you just need someone to talk to.
“Working at McDonald’s” Etzioni’s essay states that teens who hold a part-time paying job in fast food places, such as McDonald’s, are getting nothing educational from the job itself. After reading his piece, I have to say I highly concur with the point he is making. Having a “highly routinized” job has a lot of drawbacks, especially for teens who are slowly being weaned into the real world. Such jobs are somewhat of a tradition amongst high school students. However, they tend to interfere with school, are highly routinized, have no room for personal growth, creativity, initiative, and no entrepreneurship opportunities.
It comes 1 o’clock and all you can think about is getting away from your messy desk and noisy co-workers. How frustrating would it be going to a restaurant to get away from the noise and mayhem, only to find more there then where you come from! If a restaurant isn’t doing all they can to make their customers visit as enjoyable as possible, then they‘re not doing their job! This is why I believe restaurants should have to right to ban teenagers. To illustrate, who enjoys eating in a messy environment?
Ciara Gibson Todd Zverloff Ohio Virtual Academy I believe Technology is limiting human interactions Technology in this day and age is really effecting how humans are interacting with each other. Cell phones, computers, tablets, iPods, and games are changing the world. If I were to go to a restaurant right now, there will most likely be a “Free Wi-Fi” sign on the front door, and when I would walk in, there would be anywhere from 1-5 people who are on their electronic device. Instead of interacting with family or friends, people would rather be texting people on their cell phones, or playing a game. Many actions have led me to believe that technology is limiting human interactions.
People miss out on memories and quality times when they are too busy taking pictures all day long instead of enjoying dinner with their family. According to Shawn Ghuman in “Is Technology Destroying Social Bonds?”, “Digital communication has taken away from what makes humans thrive- the ability to express thoughts through in- person discussion” (111). Texting is another form of social media. People rely on texting so heavily that they forget how to talk. People would rather text than have a phone conversation because it makes them feel awkward.
In his article “Cell Yell: Thanks for (Not) Sharing”, Eric A. Taub explains how people have become frustrated with inconsiderate cell-phone users. People seem to have forgotten their manners. Unfortunately, we have developed into a society where signs need to be put up to tell people how to behave, for example “no cell phone use”. I believe it is very rude for people to have loud and inappropriate conversations in public places, such as restaurants and while riding public transportation. We are living in a time when wireless technology has perpetrated all aspects of our society.
Jane African American History L-I Ms. McGrath April 19, 2013 The topic that my group did was on whether people are less likely to be obese if they eat home cooked meals, rather than eating at fast food restaurants. Parents can manipulate their children’s eating style if they provide them with home cooked meals. Parents can control what kind of foods they buy and how they structure meals in their house. When it comes to fast food restaurants, customers are very unaware of what is used to cook the food or what exactly is in the food, which can be a very risky and unhealthy thing. In reality children are less likely to be obese if they eat home cooked meals 5 or 6 days out of the 7 days in a week, rather than eating out.
People become glued to the internet like people have to television and their cell phones. Even the people who speak only negative of computer and internet usage are exposed to it daily, and are forced to use it for certain jobs. For example, when ordering food the orders are placed on a computer and paid for through the internet. Over thirty-three million American’s were proven to be fluent in texting, emailing, blogging, IM’ing and social networks. (Goldwasser, 667) Even people who can’t spell can text because everything is either abbreviated, or the device understands the word trying to be spelled so it finishes it for you.
Smoking in public can be dangerous to anyone around. Public smoking is also very bothersome to nonsmokers. Who would want to go to a nice restaurant, purposely sit on the nonsmokers side, and still be able to smell the cigarette smoke from across the room? Not me. Think about the money you waste buying a new pack of cigarettes everyday.
Because of this your teacher will never get to know you. You guys will never develop a bond that could produce countless stories. Even though she would've been a great source for a recommendation letter if she had. And instead of paying attention to your boyfriend during your date, you sit across from him on you iPhone texting him and several others. Of course he'll never know your eye color because you’re on my phone 24/7, but at least he knows your Instagram, Twitter, and Tumblr name.
