John Liongson 3/3/11 “I Thought Chivalry Was Dead” Do you guys wonder why we barely have any fans? The people want to see how knights acted in the past, not how they act now. The problem is, if you hadn’t guessed, you guys are very bad knights. The knights back then defended the weak, respected women, and if they were married, they showed how much they loved their partner. People thought chivalry was dead, but we will show that it isn’t. First you must defend the weak. The weak are women, children, and basically the individuals who cannot fight for themselves. Stand up for the ones who are getting pushed around, harassed, or bullied. Also if your fellow knight gets captured, try your best to rescue him. Like in the Arthurian legend when Sir Lancelot tells Sir Tarquine to release a captured prisoner: “Pray allow your prisoner, who I see is wounded, to recover” (Malory, “The Tale of Sir Lancelot du Lake”, pg. 362). As you can see, Sir Lancelot is a good example of a chivalrous knight. This next rule is very important, every guy, not only knights, need to do this. They need to respect all women. Respecting women is a must in manhood, if you do not, you are not a man. Respect them by calling them M’am, Miss, or My Lady. Sir Lancelot does this through out the story of “Sir Lancelot du Lake” he calls ladies, “My Lady” (Malory, The Tale of Sir Lancelot du Lake). Also treat them better than the way you treat your friends. If you are married, show your partner how much you love him/her. A knight in the middle ages fought in tournaments in honor of their ladies (Eastwood). They also entertained their ladies with poetry, songs, and stories. When you fight in battle, make your partner the reason you are fighting, make him/her your strength. A good knight should defend the weak, respect women, and show devotion for their partners.
