I Am the Messenger Essay Individual’s Influence on Society By: Samantha Yatsula For some people, like Ed Kennedy, get a second chance at life, they get to help the world and get to find happiness. Markus Zusak, an award-winning author has written a life changing novel that shows the individuals influence on society. In the book, I am the Messenger, it shows the individual’s influence on society can promote change because Ed helps Milla, Sophie, and Thomas O’Reilly and does not give up on the people in the street and lastly, When Marv stops the bank robbery. Ed’s influence on society would be him helping Milla and Sophie. During the book Ed helps Milla with not feeling so lonely. When Ed goes over to Milla’s house he brings her cry with joy; “She shakes with such despair and joy, and her tears soak, nice and warm through to my arm” [1] Ed tells Milla that she was the best wife he could have, by pretending to be Jimmy; her husband. Milla becomes over whelmed with emotions but finds closures with Jimmy being gone. Another time would be when Ed helped Sophie become happy with her running and become more confident. Markus Zusak is still very much alive and has another wonderful book called, The Book Thief. In the book I am the Messenger, Ed, Thomas O’Reilly and Marv show how to make a small but big influence on society. This novel is recommended for anyone if you want to rethink your life and the choices you have made or could make.
