YEAR 9 RELIGIOUS EDUCATION ASSESSMENT TASK HEALING & HOPE: I am Sam PART 1: 1. How was Sam Dawson disadvantaged in his life? As a single parent taking care and looking after her is a hard thing to do in his life because of his mental disability. This ability didn’t have a name but was described as acting and talking like a seven year old. As it went on another thing was that his daughter ran away from him and now she is with another family that is taking care of her. Sam and Rita takes the next step and they both fight hard to get Sam’s daughter back. It is hard for Sam to educate her daughter in both reading and writing because since Sam is acting like a seven year old, that means he won’t be able to teach her what the word is which he is unable to read. Later on he finds out that his daughter is smarter than him. 2. In what ways did Sam cope with his disability? How Sam copes with his disability was he wasn’t the only one with a disability. His friends were with a disability as well. Even though they have a disability they are still able to support and encourage Sam to move forward. His next door neighbor, Annie was able to take care of his daughter when Sam cannot. Annie also gave tips to Sam on how to treat his daughter properly. Sam was able to run his coffee shop and was able to make the customers feel happy. He tries his best not to ruin anything for the customers. Later on, he gets another job at Pizza Hut which he was able to work there. 3. How did people treat him? Give two examples from the film. People treat him like he doesn’t know anything. They think him crazy and he should go see a doctor. For example he was sent to headquarters because a prostitute wanted to be his wife. Just then a cop arrests both Lily and Sam. Sam ends up in headquarters and the cops changes his mind and tells Sam that he is released. Another example
