B. Meaning – The British Royal Society argues that almost every medical achievement in the 20th century relied on the use of animals in some way (Gershoff, 2009). If the use of animals in experimentation is eliminated, there are many risks in the future for humans and nonhumans. “Those who oppose the use of animals say that alternate scientific methods can achieve the same or better results” (Gershoff, 2009, p. 3). Other methods of investigation provide useful information and the search for changes to animal experimentation is a main concern at the National Institutes of Health and medical research organizations all over the world.
Animal testing is not required by the law, but it is done by the companies to protect itself from consumer lawsuits. One of the most well known tragedies of animal experimentation is the Thalidomide Tragedy. Thalidomide was tested on thousands of animals and was considered to be safe to use to sedate. The children of mothers, who used this drug while pregnant, were born with deformities. (Bantwal) It is common for certain drugs to have no effect on animals, but it can be harmful to humans.
This testing is done by pumping their products into the animals’ stomach, rubbing it on their skin, squirting the product into their eyes, or forcing the animals to inhale a spray. The Animal Welfare Act requires companies that test animals to report the amount of animals they use in experiments, but that does not include mice, rats, and birds used in experiments, and therefore companies don’t report it*. The other type of animal testing that occurs is drug testing. They use this to try and find cures for diseases and for any other type of testing they might need. These tests are pointless for a couple of reasons.

The aspect of the Cold War and the East-West rivalry is also illustrated in the essay with a special reference to the Russian-British period of conflicts. The trend of the essay starts from the period of the Spanish Civil War: the adoption of Animal Farm as a cultural tool during the Cold War and the its modern relevance in the academic and political world (Hitchens line 23-9). Logical methods in the essay The review of Animal Farm in an essay by Christopher Hitchens introduces various logical concepts. Hitchens attempts to expose the logical methods that George Orwell used, for example, combining political and artistic ideas into a single entity. Hitchens mentions the outstanding theme of tyranny and other sub-themes like a high regard for satire in publications.
This idea of testing on animals has been around for thousands of years, but it has only been implemented for the past seventy years. Currently, animal testing is practiced in research facilities all over the world. It is being done to help contribute towards new medical advances. Animal Activists, however, want it to be stopped immediately because they claim it to be cruel and/or painful to the animals being tested on, but medical researchers argue against that, saying it must be continued for the sake of humanity. Although Animal Activists claim it's cruel and painful, the truth is that animal testing should be continued because rules are in place, it benefits mankind, and ensures public safety.
Is Animal Testing Moral and Ethical? Ashford University PHI208: Ethics and Moral Reasoning November 22, 2014 Is Animal Testing Moral and Ethical? For my final paper I chose to take on the topic of responsibility to animals and to answer the question, is it ethical to harm or kill animals for purposes such as scientific research. The reasons I chose to focus on this topic are my love for animals and because while I lived in England I worked at Huntingdon Life Sciences in the accounting department. I learned first-hand through the invoices I processed what tests were done on different animals.
We will also discuss the ethical implications by presenting arguments for and arguments against this type of transplant. In doing this, we hope to better understand of all issues involved in xenotransplants. Medical Background of Xenotransplants In old literature and in myth, we note that the concept of xenotransplantation is not new. Take for instance the Centaurs (half man, half horse) and Satyrs (half man, half goat) from Greek mythology, which shows that it was at the very least thought of. The first report of a successful xenotransplantation was in the 17th century, a surgeon was reported to have completed a bone xenograft from a dog’s calvarium to a human skull.
Being that over 75% of veterinarians work out of a private office they must pass the North America Veterinary License Exam in order to practice in the United States. Private practice usually deals with household pets such as dogs and cats but a veterinarian can use their education to work with larger and more exotic animals such as those in zoos and farms. Veterinary Physician The profession of caring for injured or disease carrying animals is not for the faint of heart. It requires a certain knack and passion for animals that cannot be instilled upon someone but rather it must be embedded into a person's persona in order to properly care for the well being of
Research has shown that adopting a pet is a great way to improve mental and physical health, promote family values, and become active in the community by rescuing an unwanted or stray animal. For years, people have used animals for many different tasks. They were hunted and raised for food and tamed for transportation. Dogs and cats were domesticated for use in protection and pest extermination. Animals became part of our everyday lives to the point where we as humans regarded animals as companions in life rather than a
