Poetry, just like other literatures plays an imperative role in the development of several aspects of life. It uses components essential for human development such as articulate vocabulary, reasoning skills, and spiritual and moral development among others. This study reflects on the nature of love in the family in poems: A Father to His Son by Carl Sandburg, Mother to Son by Langston Hughes, and The Ballad of the Harp Weaver by Edna St. Vincent Millay. The common idea is that being part of a family requires a relationship based on love. In the poem A Father to his Son by Carl Sandburg, a father advises his son, leading him through a set of guidelines and values to assist him untie the knot of inextricable uncertainties, problems, pain, and complexities of life.
Also, her lack of intelligence has left her with no job and an inability to get a job. In the story, there are many reasons contributing to Jean’s feeling of emptiness and difficulty in her life. To begin, her husband, Ross feels as though he has married beneath himself, and he does not love her anymore. Their marriage was most likely caused by Jean getting pregnant with their son, which made Ross feel like he had to marry her out of force. In the story, Ross specifically tells their son, Kevin that he should try not to marry beneath himself because he will end up stuck in the same situation as him.
The Quest to Define a Name in The Namesake In her novel The Namesake, Jhumpa Lahiri reveals that a person’s name does not define his or her identity. Lahiri suggests through protagonist Gogol Gangulis life that experiences and culture form the real core of who a person is. Gogol’s begins his life as the victim of the accidental disruption of the Ganguli family traditional naming process. This disruption saddles him with a confusing name that does not match either the Bengali or American cultures he lives in. The consequence of Gogol’s confusion results in a life spent with an unclear self image and the inability to identify with either culture.
This is in contrast to the William Corsaro study, which is directed more towards looking at how children communicate with each other within their own social circle. He also studied children’s personal feelings towards friendships. In an interview with William Corsaro he said that his aim was to understand what the experience of childhood and friendship was like from a child’s point of view (Interview with William Corsaro 2010). From reading this it is clear that although the researchers were all interested in studying children’s friendships, they were looking at it from completely different angles. The Bigelow and La Gaipa (1975) study is a more general look at the subject in contrast to the Corsaro study which seems to be a more personal and individual based study.
I’m going to lose everything. I feel bad, but I can’t do anything about it. In this situation Bryce not able find employment. He learned to temporarily accept and gracefully lump of not working. His idea of not working that neurosis is largely caused by the view that he took of unfortunate of not finding employment to support his family.

The fact that Papa-Eugene won’t even allow his Father to enter his home echoes how the traditional Igbo people were pushed out of Nigeria. Adichie uses Papa-Nnukwu as more of an object than a person to present these concepts. Another way that Papa-Nnukwu is used to convey ideas about Nigeria is how the traditions are decaying just as Papa-Nnukwu is. As papa-Nnukwu is one of the older characters, Adichie uses him to represent the older past of Nigeria. When Kambili visits her grandfather she wants to stay longer, ‘I wanted to stay so if the fufu clung to his throat and chocked him I could run and get water.’ The fact that she has to leave early and she is not allowed to stay for too long is to echo how in her life she has parts of the old Igbo culture yet most of her life is lead by the new western ways of life.
Thus, this lack of cohesion and differences between the family expectations and the family members shall be explored in order to unearth the reason for the Compson family’s decline, which will include social development, character roles, the loss of identity, and overall the degeneration of the family. Firstly, a well known symbolic interactionist, George Herbert Mead has stated that that the fundamental unit of organization in society is the family, this case is true when exploring Faulkner’s theme of family as if a family does not live up to expectations, the family would most likely be shunned by society. This is shown as a constant fear among some members in the Compson’s family, for example, since the Compson’s family name is tainted, the mother is always reassuring her son Jason that “you are a Bascomb, despite your name.” However it may seem just an excuse blaming the Compson’s name for her own failure in bringing up her children as parents are meant to be the first stage of a child’s social development, meaning any malfunction of a child’s social development would be the parent’s fault in upbringing as children will most likely inherit traits from their primary their agents. For example, Mrs Compson
Many of her actions reflects the theme of the past haunting the present. For example, whenever Tecumseh asks Aunt Cassie about her past and if she has been married before, she never gives a clear answer, and this is a reoccurring scene. Aunt Cassie's history of relationships is unknown to Tecumseh, and whenever Tecumseh asks about it, she answers "'They do that all the time' 'who' 'men' 'do what' 'disappear,’ says aunt Cassie". This shows that she might have been hurt by her past relationships with men, and is affected by it to this day, which is why she is reluctant to give a clear answer about her marriage even to this day. Disappearing and reappearing is a major topic in the novel "truth and Bright Water", and this not only happens
It can be argued that I’m The King Of The Castle is a novel about the need for communication between people because the lack of communication and understanding between Kingshaw and his mother create issues or prevent problems from being solved. Mrs. Kingshaw ‘s lack of effort in communicating with Kingshaw exacerbates the struggle that Kingshaw is going through, as on top of the torment he is receiving from Hooper, Kingshaw feels that he cannot even turn to his mother for help or comfort. Kingshaw also is subject to Hooper’s schemes because Hooper knows that Kingshaw does not have a good relationship with his mother, and that he could do anything to Kingshaw without being punished or make up lies about Kingshaw and know that Mrs. Kingshaw and Mr. Hooper would side with Hooper. Mrs. Kingshaw does not understand Kingshaw’s character, as she would know that Kingshaw did not do the things that Hooper accused him if doing if she knew what his personality was. Mr. Hooper also does not understand Edmund, and does not see his malevolent, manipulative ways.
