1.1 Define the following types of abuse: * Physical abuse: An act intended to cause pain, injury or bodily harm. * Sexual abuse: An act of non-sexual contact. * Emotional/Psychological abuse: Exposing or behaviour to someone that may result in psychological trauma. * Financial abuse: Misusing someone’s money, property or assets through deception or theft. * Institutional abuse: The mistreatment of people brought about by poor or inadequate care or support. * Self-neglect: Neglect of one’s physical well-being, leading to physical, mental or emotional harm. * Neglect by others: The failure to provide necessary care or assistance that causes a person’s physical, mental or emotional harm. 1.2 Identify the signs and/or symptoms associated with each type of abuse: * Physical abuse: Hitting, slapping, pushing, pinching, force feeding, kicking, burning, scalding, misuse of medication or restraint. * Sexual abuse: Bruises, scratches, bite marks, self injury, aggression, anxiety. * Emotional/Psychological abuse: Threats, bullying, ignoring, shouting, swearing, deprivation, humiliation, intimidation. * Financial abuse: Theft, fraud, exploitation, pressure to change will, misuse of property. * Institutional abuse: Disrespect of dignity/privacy, deprivation of food and/fluids, failure to respond when called for assistance. * Self-neglect: Cuts to limbs, lack of enthusiasm, remaining indoors, loss of respect for self. * Neglect by others: Food being withheld, ignoring residents, failing to provide and maintain a safe environment, providing inadequate care or support. 1.3 Describe factors that may contribute to an individual being more vulnerable to abuse. * Poor communication between resident and carer. * Challenging behaviour by the resident. * Carer feeling exhausted. * Poor
