The author of this paper is strongly against the option to choose the gender of their child. In today’s society there is an option to pick the gender of an unborn child. Today’s technology has become advanced enough to allow parents to pick the gender of their children. Through complex procedures and processes one can produce a “preferable” gender of an embryo. Is this ethical?
If you were to leave the issue alone no babies could be risked to be harmed or risk being aborted by their parents solely based on their gender. If research were to continue like this it would not be soon until scientists and doctors find ways to learn more about the child before their gone, like there personality, which would cause even more damage as people would be more likely to abort the child unless its exactly to their liking The second reason that the creation of the perfect human should not be the goal of humanity is that this may be impossible to find. People have so many different perspectives on the word perfect, so no human could be perfect in every body’s eyes. The biggest example of this is Hitler. Hitler thought
For example it would be almost impossible to control the variables that may influence a situation and although being able to control the environment/variables may seem like a good thing all its creating is an artificial environment. This is the reason why field experiments are better favored by an interpritivist as an experimental method. There are also many ethical issues regarding the conduction of experiments on human beings as informed consent is necessary from the participants and it is difficult or impossible to get consent of somebody who has learning difficulties or is a baby. Many sociologists choose not
One example is through the idea of egg donations which is when a women donates her eggs to a couple who cannot produce their own offspring. The idea of becoming pregnant by vitro fertilization to some is ethical while genetically engineering a baby seems unethical to the same people who view egg donation in a positive manner. For those who believe that egg donation is ethical have been convinced through a person's viewpoints. Jessica Cohen, however, takes another direction with the issue of egg donation as she highlights the idea that this practice is unethical based on her experiences and other people's stories. Because Jessica Cohen's viewpoint is biased with insufficient information, her attempt in convincing the reader that egg donation is unethical is not effective.
‘Gattaca’ doesn’t condemn the genetic experimentation itself, but it condemning the way it is used, and why it is used. Even though the genetic engineering can save the lives of the people, it is used blindly and the reason for using it is wrong. It doesn’t better people personality, it rather makes more selfish and narrow minded. According to the society of ‘Gattaca’ science means everything, it cannot be flawed and will always be accurate, but as shown in the film Vincent prevails science and reaches his dream. People rely on DNA and science too much, which could potently corrupt our society.
Many people fear that these theories will make excuses for criminal acts and divorce. The nurture side of the argument has best been supported by studies of infant and child temperaments. John Watson showed how he could create a phobia in a young child with the Baby Alfred experiments and new studies are showing that a sense of humor is influenced by the environment rather than pre-determined by genes. To this day, one can be put at ease because genes may provide a template of who one becomes but cannot determine everything (Powell, 2009). Although both biology and the environment affect one’s behavior, the role the environment plays is more significant due to the lack of biological make-up in humans.
In my opinion, parents should not vaccinate their children if they want to protect them from developing autism. First of all parents should not vaccinate their children, if they want to protect them from developing autism, because families all over the nation are pointing to childhood vaccinations as the cause for autism. Despite what government and medical authorities say about the safety of vaccines, parents are wise to hear what the parents of autistic children say about their children being normal until vaccinations (Attkinson, 2011). Even though this is not official scientific proof, it is definitely loud enough to make any parent think twice before vaccinating their children. Secondly, parents should oppose vaccinating their children as a way of protection from developing autism because of the significant step of banning mercury from being included in vaccines, which was taken by the US government related to this matter (Campbell, 2004).
The big question was whether or not Human Genetic Engineering was ethical. Many claim that genetic engineering for humans would be beneficial, it will give people opportunity to make their child the way they want to and it will also prevent various kind of diseases. Others object that human genetic engineering is unsafe and we should leave humans the way they are. Genetically engineer humans are unethical, it’s a selfish way to treat human, brings trouble in our society, and it’s too dangerous. Changing the way we look is unnatural, we must be accepted the way they we are.
Another question that comes to mind is, how can the government dictate who can and cannot have a child? It should not be government decisions that affect who may and may not have a child. Everyone has the right to pursue the dream of having a family. Next, does passing a test really prove that one may be a "qualified" parent? Even though some people pass the test, it would not eliminate the abusive or harmful people.
Babies by Design By Ahmad Theibich July 16, 2012 BABIES BY DESIGN Outline Thesis: Designer baby, a new medical invention has led to much debate in society where many affirm that changing the traits of a baby is a good thing while opponents refuse it believing it is a bad thing. I- The invention of designer baby is a good thing. A- Physical 1- Appearance 2- Health B- Mental 1- IQ 2- Memory C- Social 1- Education 2- Mortality rate II- The invention of designer baby is a bad thing. A- Physical 1- Disease 2- Mutation B- Ethical 1- Religion a- Christianity b- Islam 2- Freedom of choice C- Social 1- Social gap 2- Resemblance BABIES BY DESIGN Since the beginning of humanity, human beings started to search and invent new things to make their lives easier. During the 19th century, the world had witnessed several huge medical revolutions; patients who previously died from specific diseases are surviving now because of vaccination and new treatments.
