Sometimes I even go to the Fun Parks and ride in the jet cats when they race on the edge of town at midnight and the police don’t care as long as they’re insured. As long as everyone has ten thousand insurance everyone’s happy. Sometimes I sneak Page 2 around and listen in subways. Or I listen at soda fountains” (30-31). Clarisse teaches Montag to look around him and look at the people for who they really are.

It wasn't until the 1920s that she really got the ball rolling, however. It was during a time of strife - the Great Depression - that Chanel opened her now historically famous shop at 31 rue Cambon (31 Cambon Road). A few years later, around the mid 1920s, Chanel's designs grew in popularity and the word was getting around to those who could afford it.
In this quote, the color of Gatsby’s tie is gold, which shows that his suit is very expensive. With all of his extravagant and marvelous parties, Gatsby was able to show off how rich he is by doing things out of the norm. Gold also represents the luxurious life Gatsby lives. Because of his power and wealth, Gatsby is able to afford anything he desires: “…spiced baked hams crowded against salads of harlequin designs and pastry pigs and turkeys bewitched to a dark gold.” (40).This illustrates that even the food provided at his parties is considered expensive and the best of the best. This color is also in association with Tom: “The front was broken by a line of French windows, glowing now with reflected gold and wide open to the warm windy afternoon, and Tom Buchanan in riding clothes was standing with his legs apart on the front porch.” (6).This also shows a different type of wealth that Tom and Daisy have because of their “old money”, who someone like Gatsby does not have.
There are many instances throughout the story of brash decisions, a destructive lifestyle and attempts to rekindle old memories throughout the story that help prove that Charlie’s destiny was controlled by no one other then himself. Charlie controlling his own destiny can be seen from the opening scene of the story. Charlie decided to visit the Ritz bar and talk with the bartenders Alix and Paul about his old American acquaintances and how they are doing. Out of all the bars in Paris, Charlie decides to go to the one that reminds him of his destructive past of drinking and partying. On the way to Charlie’s sister-in-law’s house, he directed the cab to go on a longer route through the Avenue de l’Opera.
Throughout the story the color yellow is used to describe wealth. When Nick attends his first party that Gatsby has he notices two twins; “…and have ear to two girls in twin yellow dresses who stopped at the foot of the steps…The two girls and Jordan leaned together confidently” (47-48). Besides yellow being the color of gold, which represents wealth or is wealth, mostly rich people are invited to Gatsby’s parties. For two twins to have the same dress represents some wealth. Also, saying that they leaned with Jordan together confidently represented wealth because Jordan is a very wealthy lady.

Gatsby’s personality was nothing short of “gorgeous.” In the summer of 1922, Nick had just arrived in New York, where he moved to work in the bond business. He rented a house on a part of Long Island called West Egg. He was supposed to rent it out with another man, but the other man wasn’t able to. West Egg is home to the “new rich,” (neuveau riche) those who, having made their fortunes recently. East Egg is home to the people who were always rich, people that had inherited money and were born into that social class.
