The Great Gatsby, by Scott Fitzgerald it is about a man named Nick who is the narrator during the whole story. He lives next to a very rich man who is named Jay Gatsby, they both live in west egg. Through out the novel we follow Gatsby and the mysterious man he is. In the novel, The Great Gatsby, color is used to describe the characters feelings and thoughts. Throughout the story the color yellow is used to describe wealth. When Nick attends his first party that Gatsby has he notices two twins; “…and have ear to two girls in twin yellow dresses who stopped at the foot of the steps…The two girls and Jordan leaned together confidently” (47-48). Besides yellow being the color of gold, which represents wealth or is wealth, mostly rich people are invited to Gatsby’s parties. For two twins to have the same dress represents some wealth. Also, saying that they leaned with Jordan together confidently represented wealth because Jordan is a very wealthy lady. A negro starts to describe one of Gatsby’s cars to the police, that was involved in the slaying of Myrtle; “’It was a yellow car,’ he said. ‘Big yellow car. New’” (140). This can completely describe wealth. When the man describes it as a big and new car it represents wealth. Those adjectives always are nicer unless you’re a hipster then you like vintage stuff not new. Fitzgerald also shows characters feelings of vibrance and mysteriousness through the color green. This is mainly in the beginning and end of the book. Nick finds Gatsby in the beginning of the book, at night, on his lawn. “...And distinguished nothing except a single green light, minute and far away, that might have been the end of the dock” (26). The thing that Gatsby is trying to distinguish is the idea of something. This something though is Daisy. He wishes he had what they had before. It all represents hope. Gatsby is outside thinking talking to Nick
