Thus the French were at a major disadvantage as they failed to effectively gain political control of Indochina. The tactical and strategic blunders the French military suffered ultimately proved to be the most devastating of all. The military’s inability to adjust into the unique situation combined with Vietminh mastery of, “hit and run ambush tactics… embracing Mao’s strategy of wearing the enemy down while building conventional abilities” ultimately led them to stalemate. The political and economic limitations
Overall I agree that Wolsey’s domestic policies were disappointing. Sources 4 and 6 would both agree that Wolsey’s domestic policies were disappointing because they both show how Wolsey was ‘losing his touch.’ Source 4 talks about how Wolsey ‘aroused against himself the hatred of the whole country...’ This means that how the whole country began to hate him and through no fault of his own. This was fuelled even further because of the Amicable Grants he put into place in 1525. He had does this because after the French army had been annihilated at the Battle of Pavia, Henry saw this as an opportunity to invade France but the coffers were empty, so Wolsey – wanting to do anything to please his master – demanded a non-parliamentary tax and this targeted both the clergy and the laity. This is further complimented in Source 6, ‘His capacity for detailed hard work together with his creativity promised more than it delivered...’ This meant that Wolsey’s domestic policies were disappointing as they didn’t deliver as they were promised, often leaving people irritated with him including the nobility and the laity.
That this level of hatred existed reveals that the treatment towards the Algerians must have been extremely poor and the gap between the two populations must have been very wide. In this conflict though, the atrocious attacks weren’t only limited to the NLF, the civilized French paratroopers bombed their homes and killed many women and young children. The movie does a good job of presenting the fact that both sides committed atrocious acts. The movie does a good job of depicting the extreme variance in the qualities of life between each group. The indigenous Algerians live in what looks like a third world country, it is very underdeveloped.
The Haitian Revolution was sparked because of cruelty pushed upon the people in Haiti and the French revolutionary influence. The French government imposed a slave regulation law code which gave landowners guidelines to tend to their slaves (document 1). Since this was written by the king himself, it may be biased because of the fact that the king, King Louis XIV, was French and not a slave and hasn’t been a slave so he doesn’t know how they’ve felt in this time period. The document clearly shows the unfairness of the treatment of slaves, such as the slaves must be Catholic, therefore no freedom of religion. In addition to that, it states how emancipated slaves had the same rights as everyone else who was free in the French lands.
Neal seems like a cruel evil man which is the way the Aboriginals would probably have viewed Whites.Neal believes blacks are worthless, he said that: "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing" at Act Four Scene Four, instead of trying to satifsify Aboriginals and help them. He is trying to harass them and make them ignorance, so they will not become the treat to him. Mr. Neal resents Sister Eileen’s input "bloody do-gooders" and threatens her when she speaks out "I could arrange a transfer for you to another settlement; perhaps Mulla Bulla on the edge of the Gibson Desert”. He is using his power to bend people to his will, the same way he uses his power to force young girls into sleeping with him. His cruel attitude which some Whites had makes it was acceptable and reasonable to use power to control the people who he thinks worthless or weak.
The South Vietnamese Allies had poor morale, they were badly paid, and they exploited US aid for financial gain. The US military had poor leadership from officers, they were frustrated because they had a lack of knowledge of the area and they had an inability to identify their enemy. These are the main reasons that the US failed to defeat the North Vietnamese Communists. The US became gradually involved in the war in Vietnam. Truman supported the French in the battle against Ho Chi Minh and the Vietminh.
Jefferson’s attorney was the reason that Jefferson lost his self-respect. Jefferson’s attorney is a symbol of racism. Defending Jefferson as a “hog” because he sees him as one, he assumes he is guilty because of his race, no second thoughts, and even though the lawyer is assigned as an attorney to help him, he doesn’t care about Jefferson either way. Whites saw African Americans as unintelligent, so the attorney defends Jefferson the way the whites see him. An example would be when the lawyer says, “He does not even know the size of his clothes or his shoes”, another example of the attorney seeing Jefferson as unintelligent was when he stated “Ask him to quote one passage from the constitution or Bill of Rights.” When the lawyer says, “What you see here is a thing that acts on command.” Shows that the lawyer doesn’t show any sign of respect he has for Jefferson what so ever.
France wasn’t part of the colonies like America was, America was sick of being treated badly, and unfairly so they decided to fight. But as for France they were having trouble with their government and needed to create a new one witch they did. And to me it seems like America had much more at stake. The American and French Revolution both worked out in favor of France and for America they both got what they wanted France got the government they fought for, and America parted ways with Britain. The two revolutions were a big part in both America’s history, and a big part in Frances history.
The lack of freedom as well as the inability to make my own decision since that was his rule is a common aspect founded in the other writings. I made a turning point in my life and decided to divorce. There is also an horrible mistake he made which I think is very personal and I truly can not share that one with you but I give you permission to think that idea was cruel. My turning point relates to Dr .King’s letter in the sense that he mentioned the humiliation that black people endure back then. For instance,’’…When you are humiliated day in and out by nagging signs reading’’white ‘’and
The story is an exploration of the difference between the savagery and civilization, and the colonialism and the racism which makes the imperialism possible. So it connects directly to modernism because modernism shows all the terrible and harmful destruction of the nature and the society. Heart of darkness’ style was very wordy and long, and the modernist literature style was also the same.
