Women colleges C. Coeducation Conclusion The Fight for Women’s Rights Throughout history women have been hidden behind their husbands. They were not able to have a say in the household, hold a job with reasonable hours, or be able to earn reasonable pay. Many women would not speak up for themselves. Men took pleasure in their control over them. Elizabeth Cady Stanton fought for women to have legal rights, have better jobs, and higher education, even though many men shunned her.
Now, in the 20th century, women have a multitude of opportunities when compared to women back then. It is now considered normal for a woman to have a job alongside her husband. Women now have a choice of whether they want to stay home with their children and take care of the household or if they would rather go out and work. Women can be just as successful as a man in these times. Also, women are achieving the same professions as a man whereas before the 20th century, that was nearly impossible.
Because of society’s opinions during this time, the right of women to make such decisions had to conform to what society viewed as a whole. Jig’s situation as a pregnant single woman isn't her only problem. Jig would face a lot of of financial and social issues as an unwed mother as well. Additionally, during this time period, a woman's right to do what she wanted with her own body wasn’t hers. Women didn’t have the rights that they have today.

Women’s Roles in Ancient Times In the earliest human societies, it was believed that our society has been patriarchal since the beginning of civilization. This theory has been proven to be wrong in time and some cultures because there were many strong willed women who disregarded custom and rules their families with the sheer force of their personalities (Thompson 2010). Women played a large and essential role in the history of their civilization. The role of women in different ancient societies had many similarities and differences. Because women could give birth, their roles were valuable than men in some societies.
The Women’s Right Movement changed the lives of the American Women for the better, due to gaining the right to vote, access to higher education, and the opportunity to enter the workforce. Before the reform movements of Women’s right, the American women were discriminated in society, home life, education, and the workforce. Women in the 1800s could not only vote, but they also were forbidden to speak in public. They were voiceless and had no self-confidence, they dependent men, since they had little to no rights (Bonnie and Ruthsdotter). Women still struggle to balance their roles with family and career. Although women have much more freedom and choices these days, the process of choosing which path to go down is still challenging. Most women still consider the role of motherhood as one of their most important roles in life and whether to stay at home and care for their children or pursue their career possesses a great challenge for most. In addition, a lot of women still struggle with having their own identity outside family life in ways that are different than men. In recent times, there have been a number of movies that have addressed these issues of the past, present and future which has contributed to a better understanding and more respect for women.
Finally the men didn’t think much of women for doing things that they could. Most men married women for their inheritance, childbirth, appearance, housekeeping and were expected to be married by their families. I think the suffragists campaigns were important but not as important as what happened during WW1. But I believe that the suffragists did help women win the vote by showing they can do it in a calm and peaceful way.
Heroines are supposed to be “good” women. While a lot of ideas and values change from century to century, some things don’t change for heroines. Until recently, all heroines had to have one thing in common: she had to be true to her man, and put him and their children before herself. Because of this, there don’t seem to be many legends about women in the past. Legends have to change through the years or no one could relate to them.
Conservative people still say that women do not need to go earning as men are there for it. However, in an economy of ours, what good can it do if we cut half of the population away from working and earning some money? As a matter of fact, considering the poverty level, financial conditions cannot be changed unless both men and women of every family earn money, and for that, non-traditional jobs like working for police and army can be the best types of job where women can get the assurance of having governmental support and security of getting paid properly. Again, many people say that women may become too arrogant or rough to care
