Hooking Up On the Internet Analysis I. RESEARCH QUESTION The authors in this study were trying to look at why people chose to date online. They were also looking at what aspects of face to face relations are reproduced and what rationales and strategies Internet daters use to negotiate and manage problems of risk accompanying the new technology and phenomenon. The authors examined concerns over the risk of being deceived, if they had any anxieties about physical appearance and the hazards of romantic involvement. II. THEORETICAL PERSPECTIVE The authors of this article examine many world views. The world views shown in this article are idealism, symbolic interactionism, phenomenology, conflict theory, and exchange theory. The first world view, Idealism, is shown because the authors used qualitative information. This means the authors got their data by conducting interviews and carefully selecting the participants. The did not include those that were only interested in pornography and online sexual encounters and focused on using participants that were interested in romantic dating relationships that could result in a commitment. The authors were also looking at why people chose to date online, it was looking at why people do what they do and what these people think about a subject, in this case it was online dating. The next world view is symbolic interactionism. In this article the symbol is technology. Technology is the means of the communication for the people being observed. They are interacting with others through technology such as computers, it is how they meet potential partners. Technology is a big part of our world today and it is a huge symbol of our society. People rely heavily on technology to do just about anything and now it is a huge symbol of dating and relationships. The article also has the world view of phenomenology. There are
