Welcome to Honduras Honduras is a vibrant country, overflowing with clear turquoise waters, pristine beaches, lush jungles, breathtaking mountains, challenging rivers, and fascinating ancient ruins. Vast expanses of nature are found everywhere. Honduras is strategically located in the heart of Central America, surrounded by high tropical mountains; this mountainous topography contributes to the diversity of climates. Its northern border is the Caribbean Sea which expands along 671 miles of white sand beaches, warm weather and friendly people. Just off the coast, the Bay Islands are surrounded by the world’s second largest coral reef. To the south, Honduras is bordered by the Pacific Ocean with 193 square miles of mangrove forests and the country of El Salvador, to the west by the country of Guatemala and to the east by the country of Nicaragua. Honduras is home to people of various ancestries, mainly Spanish and Indian. Some of the smaller communities are the Garifuna which are found on the Bay Islands, on Cayos Cochinos (Hog Cays), and along the coastal towns. The modern Maya, known as the Chortí Indians, can still be found in the west of the country and the Miskito Indians in La Mosquitia area. Other ethnic groups include the Lenca, Pech, Tolupan, and Tawahka Indians. When we talk about Honduras, we must talk of tourism because it is blessed to have an array of destinations. It is the home to a world-renowned archaeological site, colonial cities, living cultures (with customs, traditions and ancient infrastructure), nature, adventure and more, Honduras is able to satisfy the youthful adventurous spirit and families looking for fun and relaxation. Our tropical climate allows tourists to enjoy the diversity of attractions any time of the year.
