1) PVC or TPU: The primary motto of Herman Miller is to make the product and the firm greener by using products which are recyclable. The PVC free initiative is big step to take but once it is been introduced to the market, the firm will reach a certain standard where no company has ever dreamt off, they will be the leader in their domain. But it is not an easy thing to achieve there are certain pros and cons to take care of. With regards to arm pad in Mirra Chair there is been lot of mixed thoughts between development and designing part of the firm. Thermoplastic urethane is a good alternative for PVC but it not a feasible option for the firm to implement it in a short period of time. It is more scratch resistant and durable than PVC, but it is not a cost effective option. First, the raw materials used by TPU are twice as much of PVC. Second, there is not a clear idea of the resources of the new material. Third, it is expensive. The firm can’t afford to spend more money as the financial deficit of the firm is high. Considering the resources of the new product is not found in abundance at the moment, there is a lot of research has to be done. Because once the product is launched, the company has to make sure everything is intact, the main purpose of TPU is to eliminate PVC from their products, so at circumstances the company should not come back PVC, and it gives them a bad reputation. To conclude it is not a wide decision to switch from PVC to TPU at this moment. Further research has to be done on the product resources and cost efficiency till then Herman Miller has to continue with PVC. 2) C2C protocol in Herman Miller: The principles below C2C protocol is eco-effectiveness and eradication of wastes, because they are considered as a loss of potential money.
