Yet during World War I Germany used concentration camps for prisoners of war to manufacturing war equipment, although in the beginning of World War II they were used for anyone who threatened the peace in Germans Reich. And eventually were used to use exterminate Jews for the “Final Solution” (Byers 20 ). Hitler would concentrate the Jews into camps where he would eventually kill them, the first Camp was in the outskirts of Dachau (Byers 22). Hitler decided to start moving the Jews to concentration camps when a sixteen-year-old Jewish boy assassinated a minor official in Paris. This caused the Germans to go on a murderous spree, they burned down one-hundred-ninety-one synagogues and one-hundred-ninety-one house and apartments.
Hitler had already convinced Germany that Jews were a disgrace. He started the extermination by taking over Poland, a country with over three million Jews. Then, he continued taking over Belgium, Luxemburg, France, and Holland, placing every single Jew under Nazis control. Hitler and his people did not know what to do with the millions of Jews, so he proposed, and executed, the Final Solution. This means, kill them all!

For my social studies project, I chose to research Rudolf Hoess. Hoess joined the SS in 1933, and became part of Hitler’s regime. In 1934 he stayed attached to the SS in Dachau up until August 1938. He was later appointed Commandant of Auschwitz in 1940, which resulted in Hoess discovering a new and improved way of killing in the gas chamber. Normally Jews were killed in the chambers by carbon monoxide, but that was not enough for Hoess, he needed to go above and beyond with the way he exterminated an entire race.
Jews, Hitler, the Nazi party and other German’s were involved in the holocaust. The Nazi’s decided that the Jewish race needed to be exterminated for no other reason than their ancestry and chosen religion. It first started of with discrimination; then the Jews were separated from their communities and persecuted. During the Second World War the Nazi’s were planning on killing the entire Jewish population. Of the nine million Jews who had lived in Europe at the time before the Holocaust, approximately two-thirds were perished.
They attempted to kill all of the Jewish people. This is called genocide. Genocide is when a certain person or group (Nazis) tries to exterminate an entire race or ethnic group. They wanted to do this because the Nazis thought that the Jews were inferior, and they saw them as a threat to Hitler’s rain of terror. At this time there were 9 million Jews in Europe.

The Nazi’s where holding vicious pogroms—state sanctioned, anti-Jewish riots—against the Jewish community of Germany. The Nazi’s encouraged the rioters and when they did that, the rioters destroyed 267 synagogues; vandalized or looted 7,500 Jewish businesses; 30,000 male Jews sent to concentration camps and killed at least 91 Jewish people were killed. The glass left over from all the destruction is why it was called the Night of The Broken Glass.
The Holocaust was a tragic event in history. Approximately 11 million lives were lost because of cruel racial prejudice. During the first half of the 20th century, the Nazi party, led by Adolf Hitler, encouraged prejudice against Jews and other "undesirables" such as gypsies, homosexuals, the mentally ill, or physically disabled;. The Nazis developed a plan to get rid of all the Jews. They decided the most efficient way of doing this was to set up camps to exterminate their existence so they would not pass on their genes and disrupt the Nazis' quest for the perfect race.
The Holocaust “By warding off the Jews, I am fighting for the Lords work” (Harran 50). This quote is the exact words of the worlds most accomplished mass murderer in history, Adolf Hitler. His goal was to exterminate the complete Jewish race, to make room for the “Aryan” race. “Jews have been discriminated against, hated, and killed because prejudiced non-Jews believed they belonged to the wrong religion, lacked citizenship qualifications, practiced business improperly, behaved inappropriately, or possessed inferior racial characteristics” (Harran 41). Due to the hatred that was formed against the Jewish people, over the years of 1933 to 1945, about six million innocent people lost their lives.
The term "Holocaust," originally from the Greek word "holokauston" which means "sacrifice by fire," refers to the Nazi's persecution and planned slaughter of the Jewish people. The Hebrew word "Shoah," which means "devastation, ruin, or waste," is also used for this genocide. In addition to Jews, the Nazis targeted Gypsies, homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses, and the disabled for persecution. Anyone who resisted the Nazis was sent to forced labor or murdered. The term "Nazi" is an acronym for "Nationalsozialistishe Deutsche Arbeiterpartei" ("National Socialist German Worker's Party").
