English 091 19 March 2013 The Effects of Meal Outsourcing Fast-food is more than a quick-easy meal to be inhaled on the way to somewhere more important. Its negative effects touch one physically, emotionally, and financially. It is true that there are healthy choices offered while eating out, meals can be shared even if not cooked at home, and there are low-cost options on fast food menus. Choosing to not cook and eat a family meal at home has negative health consequences, causes a deterioration of the family relationship, and has a higher cost. Even with healthier choices, one cannot be aware of exactly what is in the food cooked in restaurants, while families can opt out of the drive-through and go in to sit and eat together at fast-food establishments it isn't as intimate and the time is rushed, low-cost options on fast food menus cost more than cooking a family meal at home.

Submitted by: John Kenneth J. Fernandez Submitted to: Maam Lua Burias Thesis Statement: Although junk food is convenient, inexpensive, and is basically a cultural phenomenon, we as a society need to stop eating junk food because it has increased health problems, has taken away from family core values, destroys the environment, and has created a food economy dominated by giant corporations. I. Introduction What is Junk Food? The term “junk food” is used to describe food which is low in nutritional value, with a comparatively high caloric value. Many people try to avoid or limit junk food in their diets, out of concerns that such food is not healthy, despite the fact that numerous food manufacturers produce a range of products which could be considered junk food.
We cannot turn on the television without commercial after commercial advertising one type of food or another; most of which is greasy fast food that is full of fat. The primary goal of the food industry is to make money with very little concern for what it is doing to the health of Americans. Recently fast food restaurants have tried to add some things that are healthier to their menus, but if you notice they usually add something very fattening and enticing at or around the same time. Most people when faced with the choice of a bland salad or hot sandwich are going to choose the sandwich. Not only does it taste better it is also more convenient.
Although junk food tastes good and is easy to get, the long term health effects outweighs the short term pleasures of eating it. (Bhawani, 2010) Because it’s one of the leading causes of obesity, diabetes, cancer and heart disease in America, I will talk about why people eat it, long term effects and how to improve your bad eating habits. (Kemp, Paul, Segal, 2010) People are surrounded by junk food, it is available everywhere. You can walk out your front door and within a few hundred steps of your front door you can get a candy bar, sugary drink or a burger. The junk food industries keep these foods very visible and easily accessible to everyone.
One of the main reasons individuals began to purchase their food in the streets, was a direct result of the fact that during those times, it was considered a luxury to own your own kitchen, as well as the pricey ingredients required to prepare one’s own food. Having stated that fact, fast food back then, as well as of current, seems to be the food of the poor. As time progressed in the United States, especially during the Great Depression, so did the progression of fast food. The term fast food is often times associated with the ideal of greasy, carb-filled food that is prepared in little or no time. However, to me, the term fast food means anything that has already been prepared by someone else, saving me time in the end; quality time I choose to spend with my family.
