Health Information Technician Career Field Kiecia Cooper Bryan College Abstract The health information tecnology field has many advantages that come along with having a career in this field. The first advantage that will be covered in this paper is the work environment, nature of work, and the fact that this is one of the few medical fields that has no hands-on contact with patients. This field of work has many different levels of pay, which depends on who you are employed through. The growth of jobs in this field is influenced by many medical record and health information technicians that will be retiring in the years to come. Another thing that impacts the growth is that some people just decide that it is time for a career change and leave the occupation permanently. Technology is and will continue to have an affect also because, employers are and will be looking for employees that understand and keep up with the steadily changing technology. In the year of 2008 there was an estimated amount of 172,500 people employed as medical record and health information technicians in the United States. The United States Department of Labor expects there to be an estimated 207,600 job openings as a medical record and health information technician in the year of 2018, In conclusion the health information technician field has its many advantages from being one of the few occupations in the medical field that has no-contact career, and there is an opportunity to make little bit more than 42k annually. It is also a career field that is projected to continue to grow throughout 2018, and it can be very beneficial to a person that chooses to take this career
