Pets have become a common sight in many households. In fact, one would be hard-pressed to find a household without pets such as fish, dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters and even turtles. There are many benefits to owning a pet. Of course, naturally, with the good comes the bad; there are both advantages and disadvantages of owning a pet. Firstly, pets such as dogs make great companions. They are always there for you, always willing to play and run around or just sit quietly beside you. After a hard day at school or work, your dog will be ready waiting to greet you with its tail happily wagging and perhaps a wet, sloppy kiss. There are also many health benefits to owning dogs as pets. They require regular exercise, such as going for walks, runs in the park or playing games. This will keep you very fit and have positive impacts on your lifestyle and health. Besides, they can provide protection by barking when strangers approach to let you know someone is nearby. A thief will be less likely to target your home if there is a barking dog. In addition, owning a pet is great way to meet other people who have the same interest in pets. On the other hand, there are also disadvantages of owning a pet. Owning a pet requires a lot of time and attention. Some pets, such as dogs and parrots require as much as several hours of your time each day. They need social interaction and play so owning a pet is a time-consuming event. Another disadvantage is cost. You need to buy them food, toys and take them to vet so they are expensive to keep. The worst part of owning a pet is lifetime problem. When your pet dies, your life will change extensively and it will be so hard for you because you are attached to your pet. In conclusion, there are not only advantages but also disadvantages of owning a pet. The saying goes that "dogs are a man's best friend." This is indeed true and we can say
