Jack Martin English 11—Period 1 7-29-14 Thomas Paine Thomas Paine once said “The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph, what we obtain too cheap we esteem to lightly.” I couldn’t agree more. Not only is this is a motivational piece, but it’s also telling the truth, it also lets people know that hard work pays off. Thomas pains quote is a motivational piece because it’s telling people that in order to get something you will value, you will have to work hard to get it. That is a life lesson some people miss. Hard work pays off in the long run.
Anthony Tedesco Mr. Sorgini ENG 4U1 3 December 2013 The Motif of Sight and Blindness The amount of determination and ambition that a human is able to posses is one of the strongest forces known to man. However, humans often fail to realize that the determination and ambition of ones self could lead to their blindness of reality. The fact that they will go to great lengths to get what they want makes them susceptible to become blind, making them oblivious in their judgments and actions. Such ambition and determination could extract the morals of one in terms of achieving a long awaited goal or dream. Something such as the American dream has that tendency to extract those morals from humans, whether they are living the dream or are still aspiring to attain it, humans prove themselves unable to move beyond the past and end up in the loop of the corrupt American dream.
All they want to do is live the American dream and they are so blindly intoxicated by that image that they almost stop thinking rationally about the possible outcomes. This just goes to show that people are willing to do anything to keep themselves from failing at life. Critical
Dexter believes if he has Judy he will be happy and satisfied with his life. She represents fallacy in two aspects. The first, she is unobtainable which makes her a fallacy because it is impossible to make her part of the dream. He was not able to get her at first, and then he was unable to hold an engagement with her. In another aspect, she is a fallacy because the image of what she is changes completely when Dexter sees her
Once dreams are abandoned, happiness is impossible to achieve, leaving a person trapped in a cycle of misery. As evidenced by the attitudes of both Crookes and George, hopes and ambitions are not about feasible plans, but instead about discovering a way to pull through the depression, even if it’s just deceiving the mind with fantasies that may not come true. Upon the realization that these dreams will indeed not happen, misery and dissatisfaction is the only thing left. Crookes’ incapability to enter a world of hope, leads him into a bitter life lacking the thrill of living. Throughout the story, dreams seem to be infectious and even Crookes who Steinbeck portrays as the always negative pessimistic stable buck allows himself to believe.
Nick’s dream is to live a new life, be a bondsman, and have peace for the summer. However, because of his contradictory beliefs, he cannot fully attain his dream. For instance, Nick says he is “inclined to reserve all judgments” (Fitzgerald 1) but yet, he still judges people internally. Because he is contradictory, he cannot live his dream. At one point, I believe his dream was to date Jordan Baker, but even that was contradictory because he claimed to not like dishonesty, yet Jordan is probably the most dishonest character in the book.
Quote 3: People who are always mad, sad, or disappointed, are always the ones who are not going to help others prosper. “Those who are happiest are those who do the most for others.” The Author wanted readers to hear him not literally hear him, but to hear him in his context. I heard him saying that doing for others makes you feel better of yourself and who you are as a person. Helping people is what life is for so that’s what he wants readers to
For those cowards, the not-all The not-yet and irreplaceable sparks That live within the very soul of some Maharlikans The challenge is for those who are willing to commit, Dedicate and consecrate themselves for your salvation For nowadays the Maharlikans seem to have lost their souls and spirit And contended for what they have, that they don't want to reach out The peaks and edge of progressiveness that is on the top For they live within themselves with irrationality, cowardness And unjustified selfishness for which they think is right. Your purification is for and by those who are willing To love you and shall soon accept the challenge of history For the beautification of your face, your culture and body That which has been the victim of injustice You shall be free and
I think it relates but with a twist. The pleasure that Aymler is trying to obtain is seeing Georgiana without the birthmark. This is because the birthmark represents everything that he despises about Georgiana. He is in constant effort to obtain this pleasure but lacks conscience to do so. This is primarily because he does not think about the most important aspect of this obsession with is Georgiana herself.
But many people give up their lives for others ... many people work tirelessly to end injustice - people like ................ These human beings are special. People say “oh one person can’t make a difference” ... but that’s ALL it takes ... The Power of One ... Let’s look at the life of Martin Luther King. None of us have ever met this man but yet he stands as one of the most influential leaders to several people and to history.
