Homework Assignment 2: Gypsy Caravan What countries do the musicians represent? The Musicians represented Romania, Macedonia, India, and Spain. Describe some differences between the musicians? Some of the differences between the musicians were the way they performed. Some of them sang and others played string instruments. They had trouble getting along when they had to perform a song together because even though they were all gypsies they each had their own style or performance. One of the ladies had been a singer for twenty years and she was still young while another was very old. They each used their money for different things. Some of them supported their town while other just supported their extended family. Describe some similarities / commonalities between the musicians? Most of the musicians smoked. Their music had some of the same rhythms, was in the same language, and portrayed some of the same feelings. Most of the musicians just wanted others to understand their life styles and that most of them did not fit the stereotypes. What stereotypes about Gypsies are addressed in the film? The stereotypes addressed were that gypsies will steal your socks or other items of clothing. It also addressed the stereotypes that they are beggars because they were outside performing and one of them said they should do it for money. Though, when a man walked up to give them some change he told the man that they were rich beggars because they would only accept dollar bills or American express. I think he was just trying to say that they didn’t actually need the guy’s money because beggars can’t be chooser. If they really needed the money they would have taken what they were given but since they didn’t actually need it they could be picky. What is the history of the Gypsies? The gypsies are originally from Germany but they were not
