Marquis Pollard Leadership and Ethics in Sports Transactional vs. Transformational Coaching A transactional leader is one with a managerial focus that relies on structured tasks and use reward and punishment to gain trust from their followers. They are often goal oriented and think practically and analytically about achieving their goals. My mentor in high school was a transactional leader because he relied on small goals to achieve a larger goal. His role was to push me to my limits and slightly beyond, and he achieved this by forcing me to set short and long term goals for me individually and for the team as a whole. I had to write down goals so that he could monitor my progress as well as push me to never settle for mediocrity.
Santiago found the idea of an Englishman very similar to Melchizedek. They both speak of the Soul of the World where we are all connected and the need to follow the true desires of our hearts or our Personal Legend. Santiago prefers to learn this secret by observing the world, while English people prefer to learn from complex books. As they traveled, they began hearing rumors of an upcoming tribal
Jared Barr Mr. Drosche Professional Internship 15 April 2011 “A Mentor Can Help You Succeed In Your First Job” The article that I chose for my second professional report, talks about how important it is to have a mentor help guide you through struggles. It talks about how a mentor is more than just a coach; they are someone who has expertise. They can also listen effectively, challenge you to be all you can be, and provide you with a supportive and trusting environment where you can share the issues you’re confronting both personally and professionally. Questions for the mentor would be: who are you, what do you do now, and why do you want to do this? The article was very interesting to me because it mentions good qualities that a good mentor should have.
All in all The Alchemist and “Life Ain’t Always Beautiful” have similar themes in which one sees the hardships in life, but finds the strength to overcome them. “There is only one way to learn…It’s through action. Everything you need to know you have learned through your journey” (Coelho 132). What does this mean? It means that one has to use action to get through one’s life struggles and learn from them, the actions one takes can make you wise.
Reflection denotes thoughtful consideration of a situation or event that has taken place with the intention of understanding and learning from it and changing or improving future actions. Reflective practice is defined in a most recent literature as a vehicle through which one can improve his practices by thinking and rethinking on his own experiences. Therefore reflective practice is constant thinking and questioning of: • Our beliefs (for example: why students not learning exactly what I teach them?) • Our assumptions (if a student’s father is a driver, will he/she become more than driver?) • Our judgments: (what do I mean when I say a student is “dull” or “bright?)

Throughout history there are those certain few who use their very existence as a tool to teach others. These people make examples out of themselves so at to show others something important. Within One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kessey, Randle Patrick McMurphy was one of these few people. Ken Kessey in his novel One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest used his character McMurphy to teach those within the book and those reading the book the importance of perseverance and the willingness to try. Kessey uses sensory imagery to portray McMurphy as a role model for the other men as a masculine figure.
Third Paper – Person-Centered Therapy Mark A. Weedon Amridge University 24 May 2011 Abstract Care Rogers is considered the father of the Person-Centered Therapy approach to counseling. Carl used his personal life experiences as a catalyst to research his ideals and formulate his theory. Although there are other contributors to this style, he remains the predominate figure. The main difference between Person-Centered Therapy and the practices before are that of who is the principal head of the session. The person-centered approach, or humanistic approach, deems that the client and therapist are on a level playing field and learn more from each other than client from therapist.
