It is also a common model of reflection widely used within the health professions. The reason of its popularity is that it is clear and precise and allows to synthesise description, analysis and evaluation of the experience helping the reflective practitioner to make sense of experiences and examine their practice. Gibbs (1988) expresses that to reflect is not enough, it must be put into practice so that the learning and new understanding is gained. Gibbs model of reflection not only prompts the practitioner to formulate an action plan but at the same time empowers the reflective practitioner to look at their practice and see what they would change in the future, how they would develop/improve their practice. I have tried to incorporate the model in the essay to facilitate critical thinking and relating theory to practice in the essay.
Some patients were also made to shower with their clothes on. The program un-covered serious abuse within the Hospital and there was a public outcry. Several people wrote to the Prime Minster who was reportedly “appalled” by the findings. The national regulator Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) involvement, Ms Margaret Flynn was asked to investigate what was happening at the Hospital and undertake a Serious Case Review. Whilst investigating she spoke to patients, workers, NHS staff and family members and learnt that there was a high level of physical intervention by the staff and some of the patents very badly hurt with some seen to be self-harming.
Description The critical incident took place on a surgical ward whilst I was on placement. It was a negative experience which caused me to pause and reflect on ensuring that everything I do in practice is in the best interest of the patient (NMC 2008). It also made me consider the possible negative implications for patients due to poor practice and behaviour of healthcare professionals (Alphonso 2007). After spending some time in critical care following an appendicectomy, a 72 year old male patient who will be known as Mr. Smith was escorted by a nurse, to the surgical ward at approximately 1700 hours. My mentor asked if I would take handover from the nurse, who I will call nurse A, take Mr Smith’s observations and admit him to the ward.
Why is the Initial Consultation so Important? What factors will an ethical therapist cover at this time? The initial Consultation is important because it will give a chance for the hypnotherapist to meet the client face to face, and look for indications of the physical condition which may underline a substantial psychological problem. There is a vast amount of information to obtain on the patient in question. This information will aid the hypnotherapist in building a rapport with the patient; also allow a connection trust to be formed.
Counselor as Scholar Practitioner Walden University Counselor as Scholar Practitioner Counselors do practice in a different variety of disciplines, but counselors do represent a separate discipline that is separate from social work, medicine, and even psychology. This paper has been written on the role of a researcher in the counseling profession. Thereby, I will discuss the different characteristics of the scientific approaches that are valuable to research and how these characteristics can contribute to the different abilities to explain, describe, control, and predict. With this the knowledge of the research methodology this will benefit all counselors in the counseling practice by describing and explaining the scientist practitioner model and the importance it will play as a role of the researcher. Key Words: Counseling, Role of Researcher, Contributions, and Practitioner Model Role of Researcher Research within the counseling profession plays a vital role in counseling based on science and the active role it plays in “developing the knowledge that the counseling profession is based” (Heppner, Kivligham, & Wampold, 2006, p. 16).
The American Journal of Nursing, Vol.81, No.6, 1188-1190 Mcmorrow explains her encounter with a manipulative patient and the roots of manipulation. She explains how she was manipulated continuously by one of her patients, once when he had been a patient of hers at a Methadone Clinic and again when she worked at a hospital. Her description points out that the manipulative patient she first encountered at the Methadone Clinic would once again pull the same tactics again. She also points out some solutions to avoid making the same mistakes over again. The author’s position on this was she being manipulated by the patient, how she felt, and her feelings as she was in the nursing profession during this time.
Personal Model of Helping BSHS/312 January 30, 2012 Susan Sandmann Personal Model of Helping Entering into the helping professional there were many things that I considered, my main consideration was placed on which theoretical orientation I would use in order to help those whom I would work to assist. In my opinion this was the most important factor regarding my success with a patient/client. I have chosen to put into practice the study of CBT, Motivational Interviewing along with other models of helping which include: the study of creative theory, and the study of multicultural issues. Choosing CBT was an easy task for me for I believe in both the behavioral and cognitive approach/technique, and when combined this form of therapy is successful. Working from an MI perspective will allow me as a future professional to have the knowledge it takes to determine my client(s) ability to change, I will know from using this approach whether or not my clients are ready, willing or able to change, using this approach will permit me to effectively help my clients move gradually towards change, not pushing them but meeting them where they are and helping them to help themselves to where they want to be.
How useful is a labelling system in the classification of mental health disorders? Critically discuss the advantages in terms of treatment and research, and disadvantages in terms of stigma and misunderstanding from the general public. In the nineteenth century people suffering from mental disorders were treated in asylums. In the same century scientific methodology and the classification of mental disorders through experimentation and observation started to see light. Emil Kraepelin was the first one to develop a classification system.
