Should the Government use Fiscal or Monetary Policy to Eliminate Canada’s Current Contractionary Gap? Introduction An economic recession is a period of slow economic activity; this contractionary phase is characterized by high unemployment and low levels of GDP. On the other hand, government bodies desire economic growth and low unemployment levels in order to attain a stable economy. These goals may be reached through the use of either fiscal policy or monetary policy. This paper will focus on and discuss which policy is more effective in eliminating the current recessionary gap of Canada.

Currently, substitutes to pellet fuel include fossil fuels, wind power, and solar power. All three types are expensive. Fossil fuels are diminishing in availability, and wind/solar power is reliant on the weather which is uncertain. MacTara is one of the first to own a pellet mill in the world, which makes them an important supplier of pellets. There are no evident barriers to entry into the pellet industry because pellets are an undifferentiated product; however, the cost to build a pellet mill is very
Government regulation and intervention will only increase prices and temporarily balance the market in the short term. In the end it’s the invisible hand of the market that will set things straight. Ideally the neoclassical approach prefers as little government intervention as possible. Focusing specifically on the issue of the Bill C-300, the neoclassical approach looks at this situation very simply. Certain factors, such as current interest rates, exchange rates, and monetary and fiscal policies will be factored into the expansion and can affect KFF in different ways. Interest Rates With their economy in its current state, the interest rates in Canada are relatively low. These low interest rates mean that any loans taken out in the country will most likely not accrue large amounts of interest, which is important for pricing strategies and determining what marketing strategies can be used. Exchange Rates The Canadian Exchange rate is currently on the high end, meaning that the economy is currently strong. The high exchange rates will also allow for help in the pricing strategy.
