Explanations of Gangs Lacey Lewis January 10, 2014 In the past, delinquency research mostly focused on family life and poverty. Some focused on the biological circumstances. There are similarities and differences in terms of challenges for different ethnic groups. There are three different movies that encounter issues by young minorities. The movie, A Better Life, where a father tries to make a better life for him and his son in America, but ends up getting deported. The movie, Gran Torino, where a Korean War Veteran is tired of the Hmong gangs in his neighborhood and risks his life for all of them to end up in prison. The documentary, Crips and Bloods: Made in America, where gangs form in South Los Angeles and will never end the bloodshedding.…show more content…
Luis is angry and runs away. The next day Carlos finds Luis at a friends house and they figure out where their truck is that was stolen. They steal it back but as they are driving, Carlos gets pulled over. The police arrest Carlos because he is an illegal immigrant. Luis goes to see his father and tells him that he will go back to Mexico for him one day. Carlos tells his son that he is sorry for not being there for him. Luis has to stay with his Aunt Anita and they watch Carlos get on the bus to be deported. Gran Torino is the movie that I really enjoyed watching. It was about a retired Korean War veteran, named Walt Kowalski who is pretty racist towards the Hmong family that lives next door. The movie starts out at a funeral. The funeral is for Walt’s wife and his family is there. He’s not on very good speaking terms with his sons. His grandkids are all over after the ceremony and he finds his grand daughter, Ashley, smoking next to his car. She asks what kind of car it is and he tells her it’s a Gran Torino. Then she asks what she can have after he dies. He gets angry and walks away. His neighbor from the Hmong family, Thao, comes over for jumper cables and Walt gets angry and insults him. There are three different movies that encounter issues by young minorities: the movie, A Better Life, Gran Torino, and the documentary, Crips and Bloods: Made in America. The differences in these movies are that each one is a different race of people but the similarities include violence, killing people, and other violent crimes. There are different theories that support the actions of these different gangs. Choice Theory and Trait Theory are two different theories that will support the actions of these gangs. Gangs live a completely different life than the ordinary life of a person. Some people may be forced into joining a gang and it is hard to know the future of gangs.
