Nicholas Cage once said, “I like flawed characters because somewhere in them I see more of the truth.” This means that in a piece of literature when a character is him or herself they reveal their true thoughts and emotions. No one is perfect and because of this everyone is flawed. This is shown true in the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding. In Lord of the Flies, William Golding shows the reader that everyone is flawed and that not one person is perfect. William Golding shows this using one of the characters named Piggy. Piggy is the overweight kid who has asthma, wears glasses, and is way too smart for his own good. Since Piggy has so many flaws he is seen as an outcast and when he shows who he really is, he is brutally murdered by Roger, another boy on the island who doesn’t like Piggy. Not even in Lord of the Flies is anyone perfect, which is why in the novel two kids die. This is shown in Lord of the Flies by Piggy. Piggy doesn’t change who he is and speaks his mind. Even when he gets pushed around, made fun of, and beaten up, he still stands by what he believes in. Piggy wasn’t the most athletic kid, the most attractive boy, and was intelligent and civilized. He had his good qualities and his bad, and you could learn a lot from him. For example, you can see Piggy’s wisdom and intelligence on page 151, Ralph and Piggy go to the feast the boys are having and soon after, Piggy states, “Come away. There’s going to be trouble and we’ve had our meat.” Piggy knew there was going to be trouble a the feast and if Ralph had listened to him they wouldn’t have been caught up in the riot and kill Simon. Piggy is also flawed because of this. Piggy helped take an innocent life and no one perfect would do
