Summary/ Response Assignment O`Malley, Patrick. “More Learning, More Testing” In “More Testing, More Learning,” Patrick O`Malley suggests that college professors should give tests to the students periodically in order for the students to learn more. Furthermore, more tests or exams will minimize the student’s stress because students will be more familiar with the subjects that are given to them. Like the author says, “If professors gave an additional brief exams at frequent intervals, student would learn more, study more regularly, worry less, and perform better on midterms, finals, and other papers and projects.” (O`Malley, pg. 488).

I will also try and find the overarching theme of self in this film and explain why it is so important to be true to your values of self. In class, we learned about the Social Comparison Theory, which was made popular by Leon Festinger. I researched this topic in my American School’s database to find a peer reviewed academic source and found some very interesting and relatable information to the film Easy A. I found that according to the similarity hypothesis, “individuals tend to make comparisons with similar, rather than dissimilar, people because similar people offer more adequate and relevant comparative information.” [ (O'Fallon & Butterfield, 2012) ] I read in another article that went into further detail about this theory. This article says, “The central premise of Festinger’s social comparison theory is that people have a natural desire or tendency to evaluate themselves and comparisons with similar others can provide relevant information. People make comparison with others regarding many aspects of the self, including appearance, weight, and eating habits.” [ (Lindner, Tantleff-Dunn, & Jentsch, 2012)
An article called “State line (Changes in Public Education),written by Chris Pipho, talks about how reform of mathematical curricula for schools can be a good change for the school systems. Change in the school district budgets can be good for many students too. Students can receive better textbooks, meaning students will be able to get new and improved ideas and learning strategies from their math curricula. The state doesn’t mind funding the school districts because with new and better school supplies knowing it will help better students, and teachers as well, the teachers will also feel better about teaching student the math lesson, with better curricula from the
“The institutions traditionally procure, provide and control the technology for learning but now students are acquiring their own personal technologies for learning and institutions are challenged to keep pace” (Research in Technology Learning, 2010). Computers and other technical devices that are being used to enhance student learning helps to make teaching more creative and effective; however, it has also caused a lot of confusion and chaos in regards to ethics. Once teachers only had to be concerned about the basic rules of classroom etiquette and they could govern their classroom visually. Now teachers have to implement rules and guidelines to ensure that technology in the classroom is being used for its intended purpose to protect students from lurking dangers that might not always be detected by human
Though being serious topic you wouldn’t think that satire would create a standing argument but Fridman proves us wrong by making his point and opinion pop right out of the passage. This helps support the writing by attracting more readers though his unrealistic writing for the subject. Fridman connects to his readers through pathos, as many can relate this passage to their unpopular but successful experience in high school or even middle school. This association between the readers and the writing generates more feedback and interest of his work. As he says, “it is a high time to face the persecutors who haunt the bright kid with thick glasses from kindergarten to the grave.” The bullying, the teasing, and the harassing for their abilities and their “disgusting taste” must be stopped, as stated in his writing.
The authors believe that case study teaching is becoming a favored method to teach STEM classes because it engages students with real life issues. A challenge teachers have in the classroom is sufficient time to cover the curriculum. The writers recommend using a flipped classroom concurrently with case study teaching. Students can cover the material independently at home and class time can be used for hands on learning using case studies. The writers list examples of case studies used in a general biology class and a list of websites that a can be used at home for the students.
Abstract This paper is going to discuss the beneficial attributes art therapy gives to students, young and old, in a school setting. It will cover why opening the public school system to the idea of art therapy with in the schools is a step in the right direction for not only troubled adolescents, but also just as a different way to release the stresses everyday school life brings on top of the numerous personal issues one goes through but is less likely to open up to someone about them verbally. Art Therapy In Schools & Why It Should Be Gaining Interest Art therapy has been for the most part, well known as an adjunct form of treatment in the clinical settings such as in psychiatric hospitals and outpatient centers, focusing on mental and emotional disturbances. School based art therapy has been demonstrated in educational settings for children and adolescents with physical, learning, behavioral, and emotional difficulties, usually outside the mainstream or away from the public school system. Art therapy in the public schools, though not a totally foreign idea, has not always been examined until recently.
More and more computer based lessons have been given to high school students. Is modern technology culture changing so fast that teachers have to put traditional way of learning on the side to keep up with? More reading exercises and more exposure to complex texts will help high school students get ready for college, also helps colleges from getting burdened of high school students who are not ready for
As students we can join hands with other stakeholders to educate the young people on the negative effects of drug, alcohol abuse, etc. This would go a long way in helping bring down the level of violence especially that which involves young people/students. Students can also be involved in educating their peers against the violent movies and other materials that are meant to fan hatred and violence especially on the Internet (The Library ,1). As students we have a major role to play in ensuring that ours will be a peaceful world. We are not going to make the mistakes of yesteryears but we are going to use them as route maps to our destiny as human beings.
