******** English 29, May, 2012 Composition Essay In the two stories, Fahrenheit 451 and Harrison Bergrgon, the authors are warning the readers what could happen. In these stories we have it clearly illustrated the examples of totalitarian governments that are wicked. The governments are oppressive; they try to create a perfect society by use of force and fear, eventually the people rebel and flee, and result in war and death. In the book Fahrenheit 451, the government burned the books and the people just watched interactive television all the time. In Harrison Bergrgon, the government gave the people disabilities and flaws to equalize them. The people were told what to do by the government and that’s all they knew how to do. They had no opinion; no say. The governments in both books tried to create a perfect society. In Fahrenheit 451, people stop reading and only want to be entertained by media. Their government seized the opportunity to control the media through the entertainment portrayed. In Harrison Bergrgon his government uses fear to maintain and control the people. By handicapping their people, they used “equality” to make others comply. Eventually, the people realize, in both stories, that their government was corrupt and wrong. So they rebel against the government. In Fahrenheit 451, Montag, the main character, starts to read books. It was completely illegal to read any books; and he still did it. When he realized how corrupt his government was, he killed his captain and becomes a fugitive. Likewise, in Harrison Bergrgon, George hates the sounds the government programmed the hearing aids to sound like. Harrison himself goes wild. In both stories, bad things happen due to a rebellion. In Fahrenheit 451, the “dog” (which is more spider-like) goes after Montag and is programmed to find him and kill him. In Harrison Bergrgon, the government
