Explore varieties of and attitudes to texting A Few years back texting was relatively expensive that people would have to pay per character. To make sure they pay as little as they possibly could, they’d reduce the number of characters in each text by shortening the word they used. Recent development has made texting quick, easy and cheap. Some might have strong opinions against texting whilst others completely support texting. Texting has developed into a whole new language. People use many different ways to communicate what they are thinking and feeling through text. Just by looking a text conversation between two people we can identify the different techniques used. We can also identify the relationship between the sender and receiver of the text messages. Text message 1: “hey Emily”. The sender of the text uses “hey” is inviting the receiver to start a conversation with them, just like if two people were talking face to face. Text message 2:”hey boo”, long time wats up xo”. The word “boo” is a common word used which is the same as the word babe. This also shows that this is a conversation between two friends that a close. The “xo” stands for hugs and kiss. This tells us that the conversation is between two female friends as it is normal for girls to communicate this way as they are more affectionate then guys in their speech so its only natural for them to express this through text as well. Abbreviation is the shortening of a word or phrase. This along with slag has come into play in text messaging. The reason being is that it saves time and also easier then writing in formal English. It changes from two people just exchanging information into having an actual conversation as its makes it more interactive and immediate. For example people might write “wuu2” which means what are you up to and “btw” instead of by the way. The majority of people who write
