Homeland Security Evolved Prior to the terrorist attacks of 9/11 the field of homeland security did not exist. The attacks of 9/11 brought the issue of terrorism to the forefront in the political and public light. The intelligence community struggled to collect information both internally and externally due to bureaucratic disagreements. Since the Department of Homeland Security was created a lot of developments have took place. Over the years the Department of Homeland Security has strengthened the homeland security enterprise in order to better defend against progressive terrorist threats. A key part of this development includes working directly with law enforcement, state and local leaders, community-based organizations, private sectors and international partners. The nation’s armed forces are the frontline of homeland security by degrading our countries enemies’ capabilities to attack. The Director of National Intelligence, The CIA, and the entire Intelligence Community are producing better streams of intelligence. These advancements include making enhancements to the federal watch listing systems. In 2002 President Bush issued The National Strategy for Homeland Security in order to coordinate a national effort towards prevention and disaster response by defining homeland security’s mission, goals, and recommendations. There were six critical missions of this Strategy. Intelligence and Warning includes increasing and building new capabilities for different departments and implements an alert system. The Border and Transportation Security implements the efficient people goods and services. Prevents drug cartels as well as terrorists from coming into our country. Since Homeland Security was established a lot of developments have taken place. It continues to develop. These efforts have provided a strong foundation to protect communities from terrorism and
