Political developments in the Middle East are therefore of great importance to the energy security of the rest of the world as the region possesses most of the worlds oil and gas reserves. The West has an obvious interest in supporting political and social stability in the region, as it believes that this will promote countries to want to expand their economies further by developing their oil and gas reserves. The global supply of energy is dependent on
SPINDLETOP OILFIELD. The Spindletop oilfield, discovered on a salt dome formation south of Beaumont in eastern Jefferson County on January 10, 1901, marked the birth of the modern petroleum industry. The Gladys City Oil, Gas, and Manufacturing Company, formed in August 1892 by George W. O'Brien, George W. Carroll, Pattillo Higgins, Emma E. John, and J. F. Lanier, was the first company to drill on Spindletop Hill. Three shallow attempts, beginning in 1893 and using cable-tool drilling equipment were unsuccessful; Lanier and Higgins had left the company by 1895. Anthony F. Lucas, the leading United States expert on salt dome formations, made a lease with the Gladys City Company in 1899.
The benefits will give many American construction companies and its workers a job, which will fuel the economy with more money. Also American refineries will be receiving a long term supply of crude oil that our country desperately need. So what are the hesitant people waiting for? This Keystone pipeline need supporters like yourself to fight for a stable, friendly, efficient supply of oil for our country, and what a bonus that it would create jobs for fellow
Enis Davud 2/6/13 Mrs. Laird Earth Science Frack Attack! Off shore drilling or conventional drilling is used most often to extract natural gas. However a fairly new form of drilling has evolved called hydraulic fracturing or hydrofracking. Hydrofracking’s main purpose is to open up shale deposits filled with natural gas that are unable to be attained using normal drilling. The process of hydraulic fracturing is complex and has many effects on the economy, environment, and the workers.
The oil industry began with the discovery of the Spindletop Geyser and led to over 1,000 oil companies in less than a year. Prior to the oil boom in East Texas in 1901 Pennsylvania was responsible for nearly half of the world’s oil production. (The Paleontological Research Institution, http://www.priweb.org/ed/pgws/history /pennsylvania/pennsylvania2.html) To explain how the oil boom effects our current society I will explain what America would be like without domestic oil. 36% of the oil in America comes from domestic sources. Bobby Carl Neal Peters English 102 26 April 2012 What a Fracking Opportunity The United States has an energy problem. We are dependent on Petro-dictators for the energy needed to fuel our economy. But recently, due to a new technology called hydraulic fracturing, or “fracking”, new estimates of accessible natural gas reserves have increased dramatically. Used throughout the United States and worldwide, this process has profitably unlocked Trillions (emphasis added) of cubic feet of natural gas here at home in just the past few years. Concern about this new technology spans the political divide.
Me: When did you build another oil refinery? John: In 1866, I built another refinery in Cleveland, Ohio; it was the name largest oil refinery in the world. Me: Impressive. What was the name of the oil
But refining abilities were added in 1857, 112 years later. It has also been discovered that oil sands had been used by the ancient civilizations such as the first nations for water proofing. In 1929, the Dominion of Canada authorized a patent to Dr. Karl A. Clark for the hot-water extraction process, which separates bitumen from the oil sands. This new discovery was the beginning of a “new era” in the oil business. This method was what allowed the large-scale production of oil from the oil sands today.
Differing forms of oil extraction have exponentially advanced into the world's modern era. The process of fracking, or Hydraulic fracturing is the fracturing of rock by a pressurized liquid. Engineers of this process have extracted oils such as petroleum while digging deep into the Earth's surface the fracturing the Earth into veins or dikes. The commonly used practice is that which involves hydro fracturing, where water is mixed with sand and chemicals is injected at high pressures into the facture which yields petroleum and other substances. This practice is common in the field of shale gas, tight gas, tight oil, and hard rock well extraction.
I. 1. A growing world i) Over six billion people make up our nation ii) Our world is constantly struggling to keep up with our growing nation iii) We are technologically advanced and use the earth’s resources to the fullest II. 1. Natural resources i) The earth is full of resources; from land to water and from gas to coal ii) Our fossil fuels and natural resources are being used up more and more everyday iii) We have become dependent on fossil fuels and soon they will be all be gone iv) We need to work to find alternative resources for energy to keep our world going strong v) Scientists have found ways to convert renewable resources such as biofuels, wind turbines, the sun, water and much more into energy to power our future vi) Conservation is the movement to conserve natural resources III.
