Lastly achieving economic well being covers continuing in further education, going into employment or training once left school, that the individual is ready for employment, has access to transport and material goods, doesn’t end up on low income. There are various types of interventions that could become involved with the child and family, and the intervention may involve multiple agencies that have to work together to support parents, carers and families so they can help children achieve the positive outcomes, improve their lives and fulfil their potential. There has been a movement for many years to include children with disabilities with their peers in schools, preschools, and child care center. Amelia White November 17, 2013 SPE-226 Crystal McCabe Educating Special Needs Students There are numerous types of disabilities a child may have that affect different areas; intellectual disability, autism, severe disabilities, and multiple disabilities are a few disabilities that affect learning.Children with disabilities can learn and are entitled to a free appropriate education. Disabled children being placed in general education classes allows them to interact and learn with their peers but it is important to remember that many times curricula for severely disabled individuals are home and personal skills. Severe or multiple disabilities children will require accommodations and modification to insure they obtain an appropriate education.
With early intervention there are many services that parents can use relating to their child’s disabilities. Early intervention is for children from birth up until about kindergarten and it helps to prepare the family for the educational journey that they will face over the course of their life. There are not any weaknesses of early intervention. Early intervention is used to better the child and help build strengths where there are weaknesses. The strengths of early intervention are enhanced development, minimized developmental delays, and can decrease the need for special education in the future.
Creating a Title I program and forming head-start preschools for children in underprivileged school systems was the goal of the ESEA. Through subsequent reauthorizations the ESEA has continued to assist schools throughout the United States. In 2001, the NCLB was an add- on to the ESEA and its purpose was to enforce the states standards in performance of students and the quality of teachers used to teach those students. Overall, the NCLB act should be a push in the right direction for our state’s schools, but the funding originally budgeted for this program along with the standardized tests being used to gauge the states progress are both poorly designed. Tests have always been a way to measure ones performance, but may not show the entire picture.
