Interprofessional Event My chosen definition of interprofessional practice is two or more professions working alongside each other as part of a team with a common purpose, and commitment and mutual respect (Dunston et al., 2009). It is essential for communication to be clear and concise, thus enabling effective interprofessional collaboration by delivering quality of care. Mental health patients require a holistic care approach through the application of different professions, teams and organisations (Barker, 2009). One example of a holistic approach can be seen in the community mental health teams who incline to work with people who have enduring mental health difficulties and that are sometimes difficult to engage with. Furthermore, it is also considered the foundation in the NHS trust policy for accomplishing collaborative work (Hay, 2010). However, Zwarenstein et al. (2009) suggested that there is no solid evidence for that interprofessional work improves patient outcomes. With regards to education, interprofessional mentoring and on-going interprofessional education are imperative for students in participating in IP activities of various types. This enables students to learn more regarding roles of multi-professions and inter-professions, and on how to work collaboratively in order to provide safe and good patient care. Lait et al. (2011) stated that interprofessional mentoring during the training period could convey interprofessional experiences of the mentor, thereby providing further insights for the student.
