My Hispanic heritage means tradition, celebration, language, belief, and the most important this is keeping the values of my heritage. My family is from the Dominican Republic, The Land of Merengue. The capital of the Dominican Republic is Santo Domingo. The Dominican Republic is rich in music, historic landmarks, beaches, and patriotic festivals. The Dominican citizens and their customs became a mix of Africans, Tainos, and Europeans. There are many animals and fruit in the country of Africa. My Dad used to have a part of an African fruit to show me and teach me. It was a purple nut. Africans are very proud of their culture. The Dominican Republic was on of the first Spanish islands discovered by a European named Christopher Columbus. In Europe, one language that is spoken is French! Many of the clothes that they wear are similar to ours, here in the United States. One example of similar clothes is a plain top and jeans. When the Europeans came to the Dominican Republic, they killed the Taino Citizens in the lofty or high mountains. Tainos are Indians. They wear special wraps on their heads when they are celebrating and dancing. The Dominican Republic gained its independence from Spain in 1492. Now, the Dominican Republic is an island that is split in half with a country named Haiti. Haiti is right next to the Dominican Republic. Those two countries combined to make one island.…show more content…
Another reason that my culture is important to me is because most of my family lives in the Dominican Republic and whenever I visit there, I have fun with our generous family. We have a many family reunions! My cousins come to me house in the D.R. and we party. We play music from the radio. I don’t like the music very much because I don’t know a lot of Spanish, but I really want to learn
