Giving people what they deserve, and what they deserve depends upon how they behave within the society. The deserving poor were those who were poor through no fault of their own, either because of illnesss, accident or age or because there was no work available for them. The undeserving are people who don’t want to work and often it is assumed that all able-bodied unemployed people fit into that category. The undeserving such as vagrants and unmarried mothers were treated harshly. The underserving poor were those who were poor because of laziness or personal problem like drunkenness. . But the undeserving poor had earned their poverty not only by refusing to work, or to work hard enough, but also by rejecting the middle-class model.
