Marisa is a 30 to 40 years old woman with tall height and long hair. She went to Bible College in Abbotsford, and she got the diploma for early childhood education which did not have any relationship with her today’s business. Marisa initially wanted to open a salon, but her friend influenced her to open a barbershop, but she did not have any skill about cutting hairs. That’s why she became a trainer first, and she was considered about going to the beauty school; however, her friend told her about the barber apprenticeship to be a barber trainer. Then, she was done through an apprenticeship in another barbershop for two-year technical. During this period, she was married with kids, and she has supportive husband and local extended family who gave her more courage to do the business. At the beginning, she cut lots of family and friends’ hairs to get more practice. Afterward, she leased a shop and started with her business. Her business grew through word of mouth by customers. Moreover, she posted the advertising through online ads, social media, and newspaper, but mainly through word of mouth. The barber shop is called Shear Barber Performance which offers the service of men’s haircut styles, boys’ hair styles, and senior hair cut styles, and they keep their clients through these great services, and also she gets personal with the clients -Other local business around barbershop closed down which results in less traffic in the area. -Running the shop takes lots of time, cuts into personal life As Maria notices that her customers do not come often when a slight recession is occurring. The lack of skilled labor is also a problem for her that it is difficult for her to find the person who has the right skills, because barber training is not offered as much in universities or colleges, and what they can train is in barber shops or the barber schools.
