Modifying a Lesson Plan for English Language Learners (ELL) By Linda Brown Teaching Literacy to ELL Students E6536 Instructor: Ella Benson Argosy University As the number of English learners increases in schools across the United States, educators are seeking effective ways to help them acquire the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the classroom. The SIOP Model* is a research-based and validated model of sheltered instruction. Professional development in the SIOP Model helps teachers plan and deliver lessons that allow English learners to acquire academic knowledge as they develop English language proficiency. The Center for Applied Linguistics is an excellent place for educators to gather research-based tools for working effectively with English Language Learners.This is a model, I will use to create a lesson plan for ELL students. The key points are to clearly post, refer to, and review learning objectives and language objectives.
Based on what level they are on, then move them into a group of children that are at the same level. Then, as a teacher, build upon their knowledge at their level and pace. The teachers done all kinds of stredegy to engage me on English. As time go by I was not grasping the assignment as quickly as I should have been. Learning how to point out sentence essential and agreements were just another part of English that was getting me prepared for writting skills. After learning several parts of English I started working on establishing a express book to write my thoughts that come to surface in it. Writing in my express book helped me correspond with English in a different way to understand how writing is a way of English taht should be familar.

I believe reading is an important aspect of all lives. What exactly would the world be like without the reading? It is crucial that we teach this to all of the little children while they are young and trying to learn. Three strategies to use with the CCSS are outlined in this reflective paper. | Four Resource Model | | | | Word count 859 | | Language and literacy is a major part of everyday life, this is the reason for the push in recent times for our children to become lifelong learners of literacy. In 1990, Allan Luke and Peter Freebody developed the Four Resource Model (1990, as cited in Freebody, 2004) . This model breaks the art of reading and comprehension into four skillsets that students can use to become confident readers that are able to construct meaning from text. The first of these is the Text code breaker; this helps the student to crack the codes that are found in our words. Second, is the Text meaning maker, this allows the student to ask what does the text mean to me?

The Process of Learning to Read and Write As hard working students we know about the importance of reading and writing. Reading and writing are our regular work as well as that in order to be able to fully understand and focused in education, we should follow the basic rules and regulations in learning how to read and write, the type of reading where a reader uses different types of reading techniques. However, every reader and writer has their own style of reading and writing. Many people can grow their strategies in learning because they have their own unique styles of reading and learning. In “Learning to Read and Write,” Frederick Douglass has states that the power of knowledge is very important in our life.
Teachers need to look at their ELL students as individuals with background knowledge, a culture, and prior knowledge. The goal of bilingualism is to teach the student English while appreciating their native culture including their ability to speak, read and write in their home language. Students, who continue to develop their native language while acquiring the English language, learn the second language faster.
