Social Studies Essay England vs. Greece Greece is one of the most controversial topics when it comes to economy. England however is mainly known for its royal family. In this essay I will be discussing the reasons for Greece being poorer than England by covering each countries unemployment rate, political system, and head of the countries, child poverty, population, climate, and area. Statistics show that Greece’s unemployment rate is more than double England’s, which is partially why their Suicide Rate is higher than England’s. Also, because of the lack of employment there is a lot of child poverty. Child poverty is when a household’s income is less than 50% of the national median. In England over 1 million households are affected by child poverty and over 42 million people are affected by unemployment. In Greece approximately 6 million families are influenced by child poverty and just fewer than 9 million families are overwhelmed by unemployment. England and Greece are democracies and choose their Prime Ministers. England’s Prime Minister is David Cameron and the Prime Minister of Greece is Antonis Samaras. Greece chooses their President who at the moment is Karolos Papoulias. Greece has both a President and Prime Minister they are a Parliamentary Republic. England however has a Queen, Queen Elizabeth II, which makes them a Constitutional Monarchy. The Parliament in England (for the United Kingdom) has 650 seats and 117 of them are currently occupied by females. Greece however is a different story, they have 300 seats in parliament and 18 of them are occupied by females. England has a complex climate, because of when the dry air meets the moist air. This produces a huge difference in temperature ranges and also leads to the occurrence of several ‘seasons’ over one day.
