Empire & Spanish-American War After the Spanish-American war, the US government understood that the Spanish could not sail through easily. The war left a large destruction especially on the Spanish side. The initial situation affected the economy of the America following lack of market for their produce. The root reforms to the war remain Economic, Geopolitical and Cultural. The Americans had the strong desire of resolving the surplus problem. They had to source out for new markets of these produce and also reduce the threatening issue of unemployment in the country. The surplus weighed heavily on the American-economy; hence the overseas markets remained crucial. Through such achievement, the results remained visible and noticeable. After the struggle the new overseas territories were captured. This was successful after the war between American and Philippines. This war started when the Philippines realized that their land was target for the American. Although it left much damage on both sides, the American won the war for they entered with advanced equipment and trained man power coupled with enough supply of materials for the war. On the other hand the Philippines lacked supplies and proper equipment and training. This forced then to surrender within the first few months of the war. The US was also driven by their geo political powers which included establishment of a strong navy to safeguard the property and citizen. The ideas of Roosevelt Theodore, captain Mohan, canon Charles, and Cabot Henry Lodge remained the key for all wanted to make the US have the greatest power projecting power overseas. The efforts resulted to the capture of new markets like Cuba, Guan, Rico and Puerto. All these overseas markets helped the US by providing destinations to sell their products.
