Unit 204 Outcome 4.1 Explain how the likelihood of abuse may be reduced by; * Working with person centred values A person centred approach is counting and treating everyone with respect. Allowing individuals to make their own choices and decisions, respecting their views will gain their self esteem and will help them recognise their own rights and values which will protect them from being abused. It can also help create relationships between staff and residents so they gain somebody to confide in. * Encouraging active participation This promotes inclusion, making an individual feel some self-worth. Will promote confidence and will also help gain friendships.
Occasional arguments are good for friendship relationships. The trick is to learn how to do it fairly. Occasional arguments help us to learn how to better understand each other, gives us room to freely express ourselves, and they don’t allow problems about certain situations to build up one after another. An argument is defined as a reason or set of reasons given with the aim of persuading others that an action, idea, or thought is right or wrong. In order to have a friendship that works or is healthy you have to argue sometimes to better understand the other person.
This is the ability to be you without pretence or façade. This is also called genuineness; it is the most important attribute in counselling according to Rogers, in this the counsellor is keen to allow the client to experience them as they really are, the therapist being authentic. Unconditional Positive Regard: (UPR) this is a non-judgemental, Respecting and accepting the other person as they are, Rogers believed that for people to grow and fulfil their potential it is important that they are valued as themselves. The counsellor has a genuine regard for the client, they may not approve of some of the client’s actions, but the therapist does approve of the client. The therapist needs an attitude of “I’ll accept you as you are.” The therapist must always maintain a positive attitude to the client at all times.
The nurses felt the same anger as the other women prisoners at their own lack of power and the same repugnance to be sex servants, and as women in the military they had additional worries. They were conscious of their duty not to assist the enemy, and by appearing to cooperate with the Japanese could have faced degrading enquiries and court charges in the after the war; they knew the Japanese as the soldiers who had inflicted terrible injuries on the Australians they had nursed in the crowded temporary hospitals of Malaya and Singapore and as the murderers of 21 of their fellow nurses on the beach; and they feared that even if they survived the experience and were not formally charged with any offence their personal and professional lives after the war would be destroyed. If things came to the worst, they wondered if an individual nurse could attach herself to a particular Japanese in the hope that he might protect her from the others, and if they could ensure silence among themselves as a group. When the Japanese told Sister Win Davis what she had to do or be killed, she said that she chose death. At the time it was not an unlikely alternative.
Barton didn’t jettison her until she spoke her last words with her brother. Barton also hoped that Marilyn’s brother might have solution to this problem. However, the laws of Nature are unbreakable and bend for no man. Barton’s only choice was to throw her off the ship, and he reluctantly did so. His heroic efforts to save Marilyn proved to be a waste.
However, even among martyrs a good death is rare, because a real martyr never means to die for their cause, but is willing to do so. An example of poor martyrs would be the Jesuit missionaries who traveled to Canada in the 17th century. They intentionally caused conflict with the Indian tribes, believing that if they died for their faith they would go to heaven. That is not what a virtuous death should be. Mahatma Ghandi lived his entire life resisting the British oppression of India peacefully, but in the end he was killed.
It is ironic because Wang knows about the arrival of gods, but he doesn’t offer the god a place to stay, instead, he pushes the responsibility to someone else. Wang helps the gods to find a good person who can provide shelter, but many refused, only Shen Te, the prostitute, agrees to keep the gods. Having gods to stay is an honor, but in Setzuan, it seems to be a disgrace; therefore, the three gods have a conclusion on the only good human being they found in Setzuan, which is Shen Te. The gods return with 1000 silver pieces, but tells Shen Te not to inform others because the gods think this action could be misinterpreted; it is irony that even gods worry about this kind of small matters. After a few days, Shen Te ironically uses the money to buy an unhealthy tobacco store, and immediately, a family of eight starts to take advantage of her wealth.
Even if you fundamentally disagree with another Individual’s attitudes and beliefs, they have the right to hold them, the same right as you have. Respect this. Promote empathy. Considering life from their perspective may help you to appreciate their attitudes and beliefs. Empathy means identifying with that Person’s position, in order to understand from their perspective.
Naguib Mahfouz made the reader understand the suffering of the women in our society. He tried to show us the tragic position that the young girl had in the short story "The Answer Is No". Also he succeeded in analyzing the psychology of the young girl, and how she could overcome the trap that the man put her in. The short story is entitled "The Answer Is No" because the young girl revolted against the male-dominated society, her weakness, and also to the future love and the past that she had by saying "NO". When she was raped, she didn't understand what had happened to her, and she was shocked and every inch of her body was trembling.
Although they might be brown or white, inside of that colour is still human, and they should have as much chance as everyone else. Joshua thinks that society thinks brown people can’t succeed. An example of this is when he says “if I were a girl, either by myself or with a baby in or beside me, victim of teen pregnancy with a guy in high school”. I personally find this highly unfair how society is judging brown people because they are a different colour. This story inspires me, and I’m sure it will inspire you as well.
