1.The El Paso Museum of Art is a large postmodern building with expressive blue accents on the exterior. There is signage as well as banners indicating that the building is the art museum. At the façade of the building there is a large red steel sculpture by Oswaldo Sagastegui, born in Peru in 1936, titled Identidad Geometrica, 2012. The building’s exterior has an emphasis on rectangular forms, vertical and horizontal lines. Concrete was use as a finishing material. 2. The interior space is open, flows casually and is welcoming. While there are large windows allowing natural light to enter the space; shades are used to enhance comfort. The artwork in the museum is what I expected to find as I had visited recently. The permanent artwork is grouped by era and movement. Each collection is placed on open rooms gathered and surrounded by like works. These collections are separated by era and can be identified by the color of the wall which they are displayed on. The different wall colors create a space within a space and maintain the flow. 4. Mantime, 1995 by Harry Geffert; American born 1934 in Crowley, Texas, a cast bronze sculpture, tells the story of creation and advancement. The large man on the wagon is the creator, he steers the wagon while carrying a small world on a pillow protecting it. Below the creator there is a man growing from pods, creating life. Under the wagon is a small body of water where man is also being created and nurtured. In turn above the pods there is man creating on their own from what was given by the creator, continuing the cycle. 5. James Drake is an American born in 1946, lives and works in Santa Fe, New Mexico. His artwork, Cinco de Mayo, 1988-1989 uses steel and charcoal on paper as the medium. The social theme of this work is in reference to the Battle of Puebla. The charcoal drawing depicts the high tension and shows the Mexicans to be defenseless against the French.
