Jonathan Kent Perspective on aging Jonathan Kent Perspective on aging Stereotype is defined as a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. The aging community is being stereotyped everyday whether it is positive or negative. The aging community is being stereotyped on social media, print Medias, and electronic Medias. Studies show that women are being underrepresented more than men. The aging population is being portrayed in the media in a positive way but most certainly in a negative way.
During the late-Victorian era, society stereotyped women as the frail sex. In fact, Women’s clothes from this period portrayed women’s image as pure princesses. During the late Victorian era, women’s dresses were so elaborated and restricted that affected their way of sat, walked and bended their arms and legs. In contrast, Men’s clothes were more comfortable and simple. For instance, women had to wear the corset, which confined their bodies under many undergarments.
Oates places beautiful Marilyn Monroe against the background of a used bookstore to accent how foreign the girl-poets take her to be. In the first two paragraphs of Three Girls, Oates describes the Strand Used Bookstore as dark, dingy, unorganized, and unrefined (77). Whereas, later on in the story, Oates describes Marilyn Monroe as the leading lady, attractive, and charming, even though she is dressed in men’s clothing with her blond hair in a braid (78). Even when the girl-poets describe Marilyn Monroe as “more resembling them, then she resembled her Hollywood image,” she seems to be out of place in the Strand (79). The girl-poets wonder, to themselves of course, why the Marilyn Monroe would be browsing through used books, when she could be walking through the Waldorf-Astoria (80).
As the reader, one can wonder if the poet is happy with her image or if she is dissatisfied. “At last a woman in the old style”, this line presents a women finally feeling old and trying to cope with her age. Next Paley speaks about the women, “sitting stout thighs apart under a big skirt”. This imagery also portrays heavy weight and size. This is the image that stays in the readers’ minds throughout the whole poem.
Robert Mullner The soft focus of the photograph and the solidity colour of the rocks with the calm colours of the sunset intrigues me. I admire the fact usage of the mood that is being presented which is a calm mood. The significance this photograph has on me is how it is such a natural photo being made into a beautiful landscape photo Ozlay The digital composition of this photograph make the time being experienced seem vintage. The red tones in it create a feeling of summer and its festives. The disrupted focus is intriguing as it creates more creativity to the close-up shot of the Esky.
UNIT 4222-656 Understand the factors affecting older people Outcome 1 1) As adults age, many changes occur: memory loss, bones and joints, eyes and ears, digestive and metabolic, urogenital, dental, skin and functional abilities problems. 2) Aging is inevitable and is in a sense a gradual loss of life functions. The process is unique and different for each individual. While for some aging means grey hair, few kilos or bad hearing, for others is a much more complex transformation, because the aging process brings social and emotional change and loss into their lives. Older relatives die, then loss of a spouse affects many.
People are easily affected by how society views their style, behaviors, beauty, fashion, or even characteristics. They try to be the ideal figure and want to be the best within the society. Although The Birthmark was written around 70 years ago, the belief of being perfect that appears in the story still applies to the 21st century and maybe even more so than before since people interact with each other globally nowadays. Before, the birthmark had an impression of a fairy’s endowment to Georgiana. However, because of Alymer’s negative reaction to her birthmark, Georgiana began to see this special birthmark as something horrible.
Art Movements: Romanticism and Modernism June Tye-Patterson Art 101: Art Appreciation Dr. Elia Haggar 10-12-2013 Art Movements: Romanticism and Modernism Romanticism and modernism are two very different art movements, both movements originated in Western Europe, Romanticism as a reaction to the aristocratic, social, and political norms of the Enlightenment, and Modernism, out of a need to reject tradition and embrace political, social, and economic change of the industrial age. Romanticism refers to an artist trend specific to art produced between 1750 and 1850. Romanticism emerged from a desire for freedom, not only political freedom but also freedom of thought, of feeling, of action, of worship, of speech, of taste (Kleiner, 2014). Modernism refers to the style and ideology of art produced between the 1860s and the 1970s. As traditional art forms had become outdates due to industrialization.
The most common negative myths and stereotypes about ageing mentioned are; illnesses impotency, ugliness, mental decline, mental illness, uselessness, isolation, poverty, depression and political power. Illnesses are prejudices that are related to older people but incorrectly and unjustified as this group is in general fairly healthy.
Cateforis. Addiss, 2002, p.690) In modern Italian, "Mona" means "my lady" or "madam," so the title means "Madam Lisa". She is 24 years old. The style of the painting is naturalistic, realistic and stylized. Mona Lisa’s look and expression was called enigmatic and mysterious because of her calm smile that was also known as a faded and unclear smile, which does not go with the warmth the one is supposed to see in her eyes.
