Effects of Breaking GO1, Fraternization, and Disobeying a Direct Order Clayton C. Kelley United States Army, 2nd ID, 210 Fires, 70th BSB, 579th SIG 14 March 2015 Abstract Examples of breaking GO1, Fraternization and disobeying a direct order were presented and discussed. Effects of Breaking GO1, Fraternization, and Disobeying a Direct Order General Order Number 1 is a set of prohibited activities in order to maintain mission readiness and discipline during wartime, or training exercises to prepare for war. It also serves to help maintain good relationships with host nations. These activities include, but are not limited to: consumption of alcohol, gambling, pornography, and destruction of religious items or items of historical importance. Activities like these can distract or prevent a soldier from being mission capable, or being able to take immediate action. For instance, a soldier receives an invitation for a few drinks at a local pub from his friend whose is about to PCS from Korea on a Wednesday. Though knowing he was on GO1, he felt that a few drinks would not hurt and proceeded to go out. While at the bar the soldier got carried away due to it being his friends last night, and became severely intoxicated. With curfew approaching the soldier stumbled to a cab to make it back to the billets. Despite the face the soldier made it back safety and in time for curfew, the soldier was so intoxicated that he immediately passed out. The next morning the soldier did not wake for PT formation or 0900 work call formation which caused his chain of command to worry and have to check on him. If an attack were to happen that night and an alert called, being the only armorer for the company, the soldier would have been unreachable and unable to unlock the arms room.
