Effective ways of Studying COMM171 Effective ways of Studying Based on my experience many people are looking for an effective ways of studying but they are not able to find a perfect match to what they are looking for. For all of my time as a student I noticed that there are many different things but if you want to be a successful student, you need to be good at managing your time, note-taking, and environment around you. First of all, interaction with studying environment plays a huge role in understanding the topic. Many surveys show that about 80% of the people like to study alone in quiet place, which is the best choice. However, I personally know many people who would study more effectively in public place than a quiet area. As Olenewa M said in his essay Effective driving, “The perspective of the pedestrian is quite different from the driver in terms of having to negotiate the road with others, cars around and sometimes with ominous weather” (Geri & Jennifer, 2005)pg. # (50-51) in that quote he is talking about driving environment and I’m talking about studying environment. Furthermore, there are people who choose to work in a small study group and they say that it’s better than studying alone because if they need help with something or they do not understand something then there will be someone who will be there to help them. Based on my personal experience I find working alone more effecting than studying in public places or working in groups, after all it depends on each individual as everyone has a different taste. Secondly, note-taking is a very important key to success, also it’s clearly stated in keys to effective learning (Carter, Bishop, & Kravits, 2008)(p.211) “your success in retaining that information also depends on taking notes actively.” This quote directly supports my thesis what it basically means is that note-taking in class
