My philosophy on Early Childhood Education I believe as a teacher, I am responsible for providing young children with a positive learning experience. I strive to be a positive role model for the children left in my care, and in the community I serve. Children have the right to have their needs meet, to have a positive learning experience while in the care of their caregivers. Children learn what they live, and I have the opportunity while working with these children on a daily basis to teach them how to respect one another, by leading by example. The Goal of Human Services The goal of human services is to build a community where all members may have the opportunity to meet their basic needs, economically, socially, and physically, for the improvement of quality of life. This community would be caring, nurturing and supporting individuals, and their families. This is accomplished by promoting an effective human services delivery system. An effective human services delivery system recognizes opportunities and creates strategies practical and preventive in their tactics to the needs of human services then and in the future. It will focus on the needs of the individuals who make up the community.
As an infant, we form our first relationship as an attachment with our caretaker. The development of the caretaker-to-infant bond is, in many ways, essential to the infant's survival and influences all later attachments and our overall emotional and social development. Infant’s experiences are critical to shaping the capacity to form intimate and emotionally healthy relationships. Empathy, caring, sharing, inhibition of aggression, capacity to love, and many other characteristics of a healthy, happy, and productive person are related to the core attachment capabilities formed during infancy and early childhood. Attachment is important because children need to have a sense of security in all aspects of their lives so that they can grow up to be healthy and productive adults.
Working closely with parents I believe that it is important to work closely with parents as partners in their child’s care and early education. This is important so that we all get a picture of the whole child and what they can do at home as well as during their time in different settings. Parents are the experts on their children and therefore, regular communication between parents and me is of the upmost importance. This can be done at a suitable time, either at drop off or pick up, over the phone or by email, depending on the parent’s needs. When parents and practitioners work together, it has been shown to improve children's cognitive, social and emotional outcomes.
This point has been supported by evidence derived from numerous publications, which suggest that parents generally know their child the best, and are the main educator in the child’s life (Essa, 2007). Thus it is imperative that early learning practitioners use their role to encourage parents to be involved in their child’s learning, which can help to increase self-confidence in parenting and support feelings of belonging and inclusion in their child’s development. The implementation of partnership with parents as a part of my workshop plan provides additional resources for the nursery’s learning community (Eldridge, 2001), as knowledge gain from such interactions can allow early learning practitioners to gain greater understanding of family cultures, an increased appreciation of parental interest in helping their children and a deeper respect for parent’s time and abilities.
