Objective 4 Discussing the key characteristics of Empowerment and Effective Support Practices Empowerment is a compelling concept that I believe means to draw strength or “power” from within. I am fond of the person-centered approach because it emboldens advocates to develop skills in empathy, positive regard, genuineness, appropriate self-disclosure, and intentionality. As a family support service advocate, I am applying my knowledge, education, and life experiences to empower the clients that I serve at the Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services. I will be facilitating informative parent workshops that will provide resources and tools to educate and build confidence within the parental clientele. I am exceedingly committed to supporting, encouraging, and educating parents and their families in our Sacramento communities. Key Characteristics- I would affirm that human service agencies whose mission is to enhance the social, emotional, physical, and/or intellectual well-being of a population in need would be empowering. Ensuring a family has access to resources and leadership-building activities means the family has the tools they need for success in supporting the development of a child with a disability. Equally vital is educating families on the service system processes that support positive outcomes for the child and family.
